Not trying to ruffle feathers with my comment.

We do not like to compete with the lowball sellers on EBbay either; but, it is part of the game.

I do not have an account, the shop my Dad works for has one. He has been selling Magnaflow and other brands of exhaust, and Diesel Performance Products for many years (which is what his shop does). It just so happens some of the companies/product that he sells, also sell/make sport compact stuff. He does not go after the sport compact stuff, as 99.9% of the products that he sells go on diesel trucks. The other .01% is stuff that employees and their friends buy. As you know, the Aftermarket Parts Industry is an extremely competitive field. Ebay makes it even more so.

    PM me for:
    Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
    Diesel repairs or performance products.

guilt card? Hardly. I simply was stating a fact that when a local business tries to sell items to their customers, and people that have no local shop (that caters to that crowd) jump in and offer a crazy deals, sucks. If we don't sell items to our customers, we go away. Along with P10, Drag days, Auto-x days, etc... Far from a guilt card, frustration card is more like it. I have always said, shop where you like....But there is a difference between 'shopping' and simply ruining a market.

When I had to buy race seats for my E30, I figured I'd try supporting a local business that carried some go-fast parts. Seats are something you'd ideally try before you buy. I think trying at a local place and then buying online to save money is a dick move, so I figured I'd buy from in town.

When i went into the shop, they basically didn't stock anything, and if I wanted it, i had to pay their high price, plus shipping, plus taxes, and it was all non-returnable if I didn't like it.

So, fuck that, I did some more research and took a risk and just bought the seats online.

Car guys should cooperate with tuner shops if they want them to stay around, but tuner shops don't automatically deserve business, they need to add value above and beyond what online or "i know a guy" type places offer to justify the higher prices.

I've heard back and forth on the Megan stuff too - but more good than bad (and mostly 'it's cheaper and comparable quality' comments. FWIW I went with a Megan header, magnaflow cat, resonator, & muffler, and had it all welded together locally after buying online.

I looked at prices between the Megan and other brands of headers.. looked at an assload of internet bullshit about what's better, what's worse.. realized the "HP gains" comments were all based on butt dynos, looked at the weld quality & fitment comments and decided.. hey.. Megan's half the price of some of the other stuff, and if it cracks someday, I can afford to replace it.

So after it's on, I realize it sits pretty close to my damn oil pan.. which sucks. Haven't had any issues otherwise, bolted up, looks fine, does what it's supposed to. Not that this has anything to do with a catback.. except you could have probably just bought a can "muffler" and had it welded on if you're just going for looks. 😛 Megan's stuff has been pretty solid in my research/experience.

If you can't sell things to your customers then you are not offering a good enough value for them. Either the price isn't right or not enough service or something else. As far as various events go, there will always be someone else willing to put them on although it might not be right away. Ruining a market? Hardly. Competition is a good thing, it keeps everyone on their toes.

There is a lot of truth here, but the performance and audio markets are tough to crack as most people don't give a shit about the service if they can save a buck (read: ebay, woofersetc, onlinecarstereo, hopupracing, etc...) I can't tell you how many PM's/phone calls/etc I get from people asking my advice on various systems....about 1/3 of them actually buy, the rest go online and buy from whoever is cheapest. I try and stay competitive, but that isn't always easy. So yes, the internet is ruining the market for a lot of things. Some kid selling stuff at $5 over cost fucks all of us.

Even the construction bid market is almost impossible right now. If I want a job, I have to go in at 5% UNDER cost to get it and hope to god I can get a change order or get the manufacturer to discount our product buy price....

I'll agree with that. The sport compact market is ruined. If you haven't been around for a long time, or don't have a huge bankroll, it's hard to get accounts that give you pricing that even allows you to try to compete.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

To add to this... You also usually have to be a stocking dealer and order $XXXX.XX everytime you order to get any REAL price break in order to make any money at all. I see the price here-buy there ordeal alot. I do however, take some enjoyment when that person(s) wants you to warranty their internet sourced/purchased part and I get to politely inform them that they need to take it up with the purchase place.
