                      here i go

Delslow wipes machine for new image (not uncommon)

delslow gets a batch virus that he cant fix (starts crying)

delslow tries EVERYTHING, and still cant figure it out (start haveing a temper tantrum when others try to help)

                      am i close so far??

editing you registry key will do nothing at all, they will be changed again upon reboot. deleting reg keys will do thing, so will deleting files.

One of the things on that machine.. Viewpoint... is known shit-ware. get rid of it.

There's a lot of stuff on that machine that isn't stock windows... you may or may not need it.

Personally, I do not use any anti-virus software on my machines. AV software, video drivers, and IFS (installable filesystem filters, like AV software) cause the majority of bluescreens on windows. If your machines are firewalled or behind a basic SOHO router with NAT enabled, that is a very good start at practical malware resistance. All you have to do after that is not click "yes" on anything, ever 🙂

On an XP machine, you should download IE7 and you should download Windows Defender, both from Microsoft. Even if you don't use IE, the IE you have on the machine may as well be IE7 instead of IE6.

I just recently got rid of a virus on my vista machine. it would not let me access the internet, it was blocking it. I got rid of most programs i didnt need. Backed up my important files, and pictures. Then partitioned and reloaded vista. Then bought kaspersky anti-virus. scanned the computer. found 14 trojans in my old windows files. removed the virus. went to disc cleanup and removed the old windows version file which was like 15 gigs. And bam it was fixed.
