Using dreamweaver isn't too bad if you have some web design experience already. For those just getting started, it can be a challenge however to make a site look professional. I'm far from a computer n00b, as I've had a PC of some sort in my home since the mid 80's...and I struggle w/ dreamweaver and getting things to look good/professional or flat out just to do what I want them to do. Maybe it's my lack of web site building experience (virtually none), but I found MS Frontpage infinitely easier to use....though with much fewer bells & whistles and severely limited in its capability vs dreamweaver.

                yeah, whats it to you?

So chuck would you recommend MS frontpage then? I would like to do it mostly myself, as i know how i want it to look. I plan on it costing 100-150$ so im not scared of buying a product. I also would like it done within 2 months, is it easy enough to learn in that amount of time? I may be going to a conference in portland on may 30th so thats kinda my deadline at the moment.

And i suck at binary, thats a no-go

LOL@doing it in Binary, that would take you years.

Anyway, if you have zero coding, you could start with Frontpage. Like Chuck said, Dreamweaver is a bit more complicated, but has almost everything you could ask for, aka more than you really need. In all honesty tho, if this is for a business, I'd highly suggest someone doing it for you, as your first time is unlikely to look "professional". It will be more than $100-150 for a nice site though, thats for sure.

If you want it to look half way decent go with dreamweaver. Im sure there are online videos on how to use it. Its not really that difficult of a program to work with. Having photoshop also helps. or fireworks

You might be able to find a college or high school kid who you could pay 150 bucks to, to make the website for you.

I was about to say this. You should contact some people at your school or others.

its all going to come down to what you want the site to do and what your target audience is.

Sites can be built in a half hour with tools like front page, dreamweaver, or any number of host provided tools. All this is going to give you is a straight static HTML page that looks like it came from any one of your favorite WYSIWYG editors. Depending upon your target audience - this might still work for you. The truth is the internet is still not mainstream enough (at least in this region) for the larger majority of people to weigh website function and design into their views about a particular company. There are still plenty of consumers and business owners that are stuck on the 'oh wow, look, a website!' mentality. Take a newspaper ad that looks like it was done by a 5th grader. How are you going to view that business? Not very good I'd bet. Unfortunately (from the standpoint of someone in the web industry) that mentality hasn't been applied to the internet yet.

Now take that the other direction. If your target audience is younger and more technologically advanced you best be prepared to spend some money if you plan on a website having any positive effect in marketing your business. On the functionality side - if you want a robust data driven website - again - be ready to open the checkbook.

agreed, i feel the same way about some companies. My website will be primarily a picture and text kinda deal just to put out product information and contact information. The market for my product really hasnt been created in any scale at the moment but will have a huge demand in about 2-3 years so i need to get started as soon as i can. I will not have a shopping cart or anything real interactive, just alot of pics and info maybe a few imbedded videos. I messed with dreamweaver some today and must say it was pretty easy, i think i will just go that route for now. Need to get pics and stuff uploaded first then i can start on it next week.
