I have been thinking about a 16g swap on my car (which is almost completly stock). I was wondering is there a huge difference between a 14b and a 16g? The cost is kind of what I am looking at, not cost of turbo, but supporting mods associated with a 16g. I am now kind of leaning to a 14b. I am not really looking to run any crazy numbers, just kind of trying to have a pretty fun car for the streets. What do you guys think about this?

might as well go 14b if your jus lookin to have some fun on the streets. its cheaper and theres not a big difference between the 14b and 16g under 16 psi. especially if you dont have too many other mods

14b's do break a lot tho

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I have a ihi turbo small ass turbo which runs a good 15 pounds no problem, but I am going to run a small 16g at hopefully 22 psi.

Ok, some things to think about:

Used turbos blow up. Remember your buying a 1G turbo, 90-94. That's a 15 year old car possibly. Don't believe people when they say its only got 10,000 on it or something, becusae its just not true.

There's not a big difference between a 14b and a 16g? Hmm... yeah right! 16g is going to flow a HELL of a lot more then a 14b.

14b or 16g you are going to want a fuel pump, and possibly an S-AFC. 14b's are internally gated, and no, they do not control boost well, especially where we live. Even T-25's boost creeps pretty badly.

With a Big16g or an Evo 16g, your going to need to buy 550's or something in that range; small 16g's are slightly bigger then 14b's.

                I've been running a small 16g with 450cc injectors, a walbro 190lph and an S-afc ii.

Since you have a 2G, your going to need a 2G install kit for either one. Anywhere from 100-200 dollars depending on what you get and how you put it together.

If I were you I would just go with the 16g and do the supporting mods. I believe you will have a little more fun with it. You can run a little more boost than a 14b.
                  just my $.02

dont waste your money on a 16g if you think you will ever upgrade from that... unless you get it cheap... under 300.00

Gonna agree w/ Kevin on this one. Buy the biggest turbo you ever think you're gonna want. I "thought" I did that w/ my 18G...was wrong...really really wrong. More details on that later though.

If you're going to do any 16G, might as well make it the EVOIII 16G.

They are right when they tell you to pick the biggest one you think you will ever want. My advice would be to pick that one..only one step larger! I bought my turbos out of neccesity and eight months later im looking at spending another 3k for the turbos I originally wanted + the supporting mods to handle them. It doesnt matter what you buy, in six months your car will feel slow again and you will want to go bigger...

like he said, it will feel slow. I just got my car back a few weeks ago and it already feels slow. I had a 16g on my laser and it felt 5 times faster with the 14b. IMO 16g's suck major wang. I'd hate to see someone else get screwed for the same thing I did.
