dont care if it has the m badge, the styling on that one is so much nicer...and if/when i get around to getting a e34 it wont be the baby dick 525 (2.5s are for 3 series) it'd have to be the 535, 540 or M...
oh and it'd have to have the M system II wheels...
I love the classic styling of the e34/e30 bmw's
BUT the e34's proddecsesor (The e39) is pure sex. I personally think its far better than the most recent 2 generations...

The sport trim pictures for the f10 have not yet been released (M-sport 550i/m5). This might change my mind.... It will be interesting to see what they do with the m5...

You might find this interesting...
Wish they would had released this.. Stunning.

very neat... but 5 series in a 2dr is just too weird.. lol maybe if it was badged as a sixer...
I'd like to hear more about the "M8" if it's real... i love the 8 series..

The M8 was the E31 850CSI. Some parts of the car actually say M8, but at the last minute they declined to put an M badge on the trunk or the sale literature.
~380hp 5.7l V12, 6 speed stick. That was a lot of beef for the early 90s.
The E34 is my favorite BMW body style, hands down. I was looking at E34 535i 5 speeds 10 years ago but they were hard to find. I ended up with the previous-gen M5 instead.
There are E34's in workable shape on minneapolis craigslist all the time. They are regularly under $5k. The M-System II wheels are standard faire.. but Alpina-style wheels with some dish look absolutely fantastic on any E34... Alpina or not.

E34 M5's are actually going for under $10k now quite regularly. That is a lot of car for small money... 310hp stock,7200 rpm I6.
Biggest problem is that the rear interior room in them doesn't compare to bigger sedans of today, and the E34 interior doesn't wear as well as some of the earlier BMWs.

Here is more info on the new 5 series launch:

And here is the 5 series family portrait:

Starting from left to right, they are:
E12 (1975-1981)
E28 (1982-1988)
E34 (1989-1995)
E39 (1996-2003)
E60 (2003-2009)
F01 (2010-I had an E12 528i in college, and an E28 M5 in my garage right now. The above cars are euro-specification so on the older ones the bumpers look much different than the US cars. The E34 pictured above has the "wide" grilles seen on V8 models and in the final years, all E34 models.
BMW has brought back the countoured dashboard in the F01 -- the center stack tilts towards the driver again, as it did on all pre-E65 7 and E60-5 series cars for at least the previous 30 years. Nice to see it come back.
Regarding the BMW's looking like the camry: everyone copied the E65 7 series (the one that came out in 2002), with its ridiculous bulbous rear-ass and fucked up trunk. The F01 5 series is a refinement of that basic boondoggle.. so of course in some regard it looks like the Camrys and all of the other plebian appliance cars that have been copying that basic look for the last 8 years.
I'm not real enamored with the styling on current BMWs. You have to go back to about 2001 for a 7 series I'd be interested in.. or 02/03 for a 5. At least they didn't ruin the 3 series.
These days, I think Audi is designing much better looking cars, inside and out. I think BMW is still building a better chassis and engine, and holds its resale better, but the cars just look weird. However, even with all of their funky designs BMW keeps having record sales year after year. So they must be smarter than I am
