how come i keep hearing on how we are fixing the un-financially sound practices of the last 8 years then??so either you are lying or the current administration is lying.... and there is no way they would do that
It is not sustainable. No argument from me there.
However, if you want to look at Federal Debt vs GDP, one only needs to look at this chart to see where the arguments begin that the practices of the former President (GWB) reversed what was working under his predecessor.

Yes, I borrowed that chart from this article in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_by_U.S._presidential_terms but at least it has the sources listed to back up it's data....whereas the usdebtclock.org basically uses (from what I can gather from a brief bit of research on numerous sites....thanks google...) flash video players to play a movie showing the debt and isn't sourcing it from anything tangible. Now, it may be close to accurate, but to say it is gospel is crazy.
This guys sums it up better than me:

Everyone completely disregards that this website does not disclose its source for information. When you look at the registrant info, its all private..hmmmm? suspicious? Well when you look at the source code, its just a bunch of flash videos playing?codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" height="21" width="209">

where is the data come from? Am I the only one who has web common sense here. does everyone just believe everything they see on the internet.
Posted by Chris, 09/08/2009 7:21am (4 months ago)Again, I'm not saying that spending isn't out of control (It is clearly out of control), just stating that without a verifiable source it is merely guesstimating and I'm pretty sure the CBO and Census Bureau aren't exactly updating their files every second or so to tabulate the actual debt.
Is the site a tool/gauge? Sure. It is probably really close to accurate, but the numbers spinning up wildly is based on predicted and not actual numbers.

I'll say this though....arguing if Bush was right/wrong is pointless now. All we can really do is look at the things that did work vs the things that didn't work and fix/eliminate the things that didn't work and keep those that do.

point is saying an administration is not being honest is a pretty baseless accusation because thats the nature of politics. contain, diffuse, disseminate, maybe get reelected.

This I can agree with.

I suppose it could be, I did state that I thought spending was out of control, but I guess when you lean too far one way or another (left or right) it is hard to read all the words on a monitor so it is easier to take a pop shot at the big pink graph in the middle with a smart ass comment that really doesn't even make sense.
Why doesn't it make sense? Because it is based on historical data, not forward guesstimation. My guess is that the data gets compiled at the end of the year by places like the CBO and others and new data hasn't been compiled/sorted yet. I'm purely guessing, I really don't know how it is compiled and added to the list.
Also, the graph only goes to 2007, so maybe it went off the chart in 2008 already or maybe the last year GWB was in office he lowered it so much that it didn't even register and we had surpluses galore and it's a left wing media conspiracy to put that out there so that when they finally get Obama's numbers he will look like the uber Savior of the economy.... /sarcasm

Yep i know nothing.... wish i could be a big enough deal to post rambling paragraphs and cite wikipedia 90% of the time
hopefully someday i can
find it funny how everyone wants to look back to blame rather than look forward to fix.... just like Obama's speech today.... loved it
-
I've said plenty of blame goes to all sides. Maybe instead of everyone bitching about who is right or wrong we can do what I said back in post #13 of this thread. Or did you not read that either. That was one of my short posts.
BTW, sorry for citing Wikipedia. I googled debtclock accuracy just to verify if what I was reading/seeing was 100% accurate or an estimation...in the process I read a few different articles including the one at Wikipedia. I don't see how posting that is in any way a bad thing. It shows it from another perspective and cites it's sources of data. Sorry that I didn't put all that information together myself and instead used some other individuals compiled information. If it is false information, please let me know where it is wrong and I will pull my thread.
As for the rambling paragraphs, well, I guess my vocabulary is strong enough to where I feel that I can write more than 15 words without falling all over myself. Also, I tend to write why I feel how I do about a subject to give others an insight into what my thoughts are rather than just saying "That is cool" or "this sucks". I try and give it substance. Sorry for caring, I'll try and use less and smaller words going forward.
