Jason how about 7 guys pay $40.00 instead of 15 guys @ $20.00

I don't know if it is a money thing, or a number of people that are driving this guy. I have no doubt that after a few races that more would come and check it out.... I will await his call and see what he says. I cannot make next Sundays race regardless which sucks...

Tonight Tufte and I tested out his homemade ice tires on his stock 1990-91 Mazda Miata. I think they have about 100 self-taping screws with nuts on the outside.. We mounted them and didn't leak any pressure off @ 40psi I was suprised because we didn't use any Slime or tire sealer.

We didn't take any pics so sorry about that..

After testing we decided that a RWD would need more than 100 on the rear tires. On the front I think 100 would work fine.. We did some 5,000 rpm launch's and the studs/screws dug straight to the ground...

If you plan on building ice tires be prepared to spend $50.00-$100.00

Ice testing #2 soon to come with pics and vids

I called the guy yesterday and left a message saying we would have ~10 people. He didn't return my call, so I called again today and left a message, and I still haven't heard back. I don't think this is worth his time.... If anything changes I will let you know, but being the first 'race' is 4 days away, I'm guessing it isn't gonna happen.

What do you think would happen if like lets say he doesn't call you back, and we just show up out there if we had a group of us wanting to participate?

Worth a shot? Worst case is you could show that there is some interest and he could take the reigns and try and organize it. This has nothing directly to do with Tintmasters, except he called me and asked if 'anyone around there would be interested'. I say go and ask for Kevin. I won't be there (races or not), but check out the surface conditions and see what kind of setups people should plan for IF this ends up working out....

Buffalo River Race Park has an early Christmas present for its racing fans.

BRRP owner Kevin Nathe has flooded the quarter-mile track and will tentatively run six shows of ice racing this winter.
The first show is set for noon Sunday.
“People have raced on frozen lakes, and the facility sits idle the whole winter,” Nathe said. “We thought this would be a way to generate interest and income in the offseason.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. We’re sort of winging it right now, so I guess we’ll find out.”
The frozen surface is roughly six to eight inches of ice, and Nathe will run two classes – front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.
Drivers will be allowed to stud the non-drive tires, meaning the front-wheel drive class can have studded tires on the rear wheels.
“We’re not going to be flying around there,” Nathe said. “We’re going to keep the speeds down and just have fun. It’s not a real speed thing, but there should be some good races.”
Nathe has also made other changes off the track. He said he insulated and put walls with walk-in doors into the walkways of the concession stands – meaning everything under the grandstand is now heated.
“There are places to warm up if you want to. Everything is heated. We know some people are going to come out, and the interest has been pretty good.”
The interest that has already started has been somewhat of a surprise for Nathe.
While local guys like Brock Gronwold and Rich Pavlicek should be out there racing, other drivers from all over the region have been in contact with the track owner.
“We got a phone call from three guys in Wisconsin that wanted directions to get out here,” Nathe said. “We had calls from Canada saying that they’re coming, and people are also coming from the Twin Cities and northern Minnesota.”
Racing on the frozen lakes has been something drivers have done for years in Minnesota.
The cars aren’t the racers fans would usually see out there during the summer, but they are more akin to just regular cars racing around the track.
They won’t be blasting around like the Modifieds, either, but Nathe is hoping that the fans will still be interested in the different dynamic that the winter brings.
“It’s just a few dates, and we’ll see how it goes,” Nathe said. “We’re not going to go every week. At least not this year, anyway.”
