PS3 probably is the most adult focused console...I haven't looked at games lately but the selection is usually rather limited for young kids...then again, Xbox360 is probably no different except it's been out longer so theres a better selection by default..think cheap used games from gamestop.

A Wii is good if you feel your kids aren't active enough too. You would probaby have fun playing it with them too. The games are very simple minded and cartoony, but get you involved.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Xbox will probably allow the most growth (as their gaming habits mature) for the kids and long term playability (talk to Jim about modding it as well to play...ahem...."backups" of video games). Wii will probably be the funnest short term. PS3 will probably break, but is the only one offering bluray for movie watching purposes.

I've seen plenty of xboxs break... I've only seen one PS3 break, and the kid that had it was kinda dumb anyways, so that probably played into the fact...

How old are the kids? Wii would be hands down the best for younger kids (<15) as the games are more geared toward that age and very easy to use. We have 5 kids around here oldest is 7 and they are always playing sports and stuff. I cant even get them to play my xbox cause they cant figure out how to do anything on it

Kids love the Wii. Most of the games are less violent if you're into monitoring that type of thing.

I got my kids a Wii for x-mas, and they are 9yrs and younger. They enjoy playing the bowling.

I'm going on numerous conversations I had with Jim back when I used to stay with him this summer. From what I can gather, it's not IF the laser will fail, it's when....and then it's spendy to fix it, unlike a 3 rings fix.

I think for kids under 10 the Wii is probably the way to go.

For that matter -- why not get a used snes or gamecube or something, and all of the kids games that are available for such systems?

Once you are de-sensitized to shooting and profanity, the 360 is the way to go.

I don't see much point in the PS3 unless there are true platform exclusives there you need to have. BR player doesn't interest me as I'll never buy a BR disc, and the online story is a total non-starter.

They may be free...but you get what you pay for. $50 (that's at full price, lots of places have sales for them) is not a lot to pay for an entire year of online gaming/downloading/streaming.

Dave, you have 2 girls and the Wii is going to be way more geared to games that THEY would enjoy playing. I have a 360 and ps3. Both have their advantages as well as the Wii. If it was up to me buying for your 2 daughters solely, it'd be the Wii. I will own one soon.

                                You're misinformed. I see more PS3's these days then I do 360's.

                                BluRay Diodes burn out
PS3's GPU (RSX) Chip has the exact same problem as Xbox 360's (Red Lights)

The real question is, how many people have PS3's that you know compared to Xbox 360's.

                                Anyway... back on topic.

Wii or Xbox 360 for the kids. I'd lean towards the Wii since they are younger. Accessories for the Wii are quite a bit cheaper as well, however, like 90% of the Wii games are absolute junk. You'll def. want to rent games before buying them.

A back catalog of a ton of different games, some not even nintendo! Plus, you have the entire GameCube lineup available as well...which I think really helps.
