Does anyone here use any special equipment for water filtering? I'm considering buying a filtering system to use at my mom's place (Prairiewood), but I'm having a hard time finding good information to support either reverse osmosis or distilled.

Most of the things that I'm finding are weighted against one or the other (without any hard evidence), I can't seem to find any objective reviews to explain which is actually better. Can anyone offer some insight?

we have always had a fridge with the filtered water option in it. Thats water is what i drink 99% of the time if i drink water. I couldn't tell you what filtering process is but i would assume the same style as like a britta filter? You still need to change the filters on it.

also we have had the reverse osmosis systems, and i can't tell a difference between the two. One thing i hate is that it's never that cold. This could be normal that it is not cold water but it isn't that refreshing to drink room temp water.

We just use a large Pur pitcher. There really isn't anything wrong with city water unless you honestly can't stand the taste. Most people can't tell the difference between filtered water, unfiltered water, and bottled water in a blind taste test.

are you installing something to support the entire home which would be plumbed in off the meter? or are you putting something under a sink?

reverse osmosis from ge, the tankless one, makes water tolerable. the downside is 50 dollar replacement filters.

I had a Culligan system installed in my house about a year ago. I drink an absolute ton of water and do not regret the purchase at all. It also feeds my freezer and results in crystal clear ice cubes.

I put in a system under my sink that I tied into my fridge(ice & water)-thats the only water we drink with-works great and was under 200.00

We have Culligan's water softener along with the R.O. for a seperate drinking water spout at the kitchen sink, along with the fridge getting another line for crystal clear water and ice.

But I also live in West Fargo, where the water is absolutely terrible unless it is filtered some how.

When I lived in Fargo, I got used to using a Brita or Pur fridge pitcher filter system, which worked great, but had to replace filters a lot. The Culligan RO requires filter replacement every year for 2 of them, and every other year for the other one. Filters cost between $48-68 per year, and are extremely easy to replace on your own. And that is total cost for the filters, not per filter cost.

Agreed, West Fargo water is TERRIBLE. I grew up in Moorhead with the best water ever, and now suffer with WF water. I use a Brita pitcher and it works wonders. I actually hated drinking filtered Moorhead water because it ruined what "flavor" there was in it.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!
