no, let me clearify. When i went to the sprint store, they had only preapproved sites that sprint had modified to fit on the phones. There were about 40 of them. They were your basic sites like CNN, CNET, MSNBC, etc. Those were the only sites you could access on the internet ready phones, except for the PalmOS phones, which could access the entire internet. so what i'm trying to say, is that unless they changed how the phones access the internet, most sprint customers won't be able to access fargo street. hope that makes more sense.

you can get internet on your PDA. depending on what kind PDA you have, you can get a compact flash, SD, or sony memory stick card that allows you wireless access to the internet. If you have a Palm, Cingular normally handles the wireless part of the deal, but they sorta don't cover the area around fargo, or ND for that matter. but i know verizon or sprint offers internet services for your Palm or elsewise, and that's nation wide (boo cingular).

I can access fargo street or any other site with my sprint video phone, but it usually runs out of memory half way through the load.

cingular has coverage in fargo but you have to order it out of a different city

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

gotcha. i saw a map of the coverage area, and it didn't include ND, so i figured that thier coverage wouldn't work here. you're prolly right though cuz i've never had cingular, so i don't know for sure if thier coverage drops out in ND.

Verizon charges for thier mobile web, but you can use a 3rd party WAP gateway to get internet for free. I just set one up on a computer at my house.

You can also set it up so you get free MMS (picture messaging) becuase Verizon uses WAP to send those as well.

                    To clear up some confusion:

Verizon and Sprint both use CDMA technology... this means Sprint's "Vision" service is actually just 3G CDMA, while Verizons Express Network is 3G CDMA, and Broadband Access is EVDO.

This means: Vision and Express Network will allow you to surf the internet, with your phone tethered to another device (PDA or Laptop) at rates riviling a standard land line's 56k modem.

However, Verzions new "Broadband Access" uses the same technlogy as Monet Mobile used to use, offering up to 2mbps, much like a fast DSL connection.

T-Mobile, Cingular and AT&T use GSM technology. In general, GSM signal strength is lower, but the use of SIM cards is a plus. All GSM phone's use GPRS for data. GPRS is a feature that will allow any data that is sent from the phone, such as internet etc... and not be counted as minutes.

GPRS's data speeds are slightly faster then 3G CDMA.

Ok, now about internet on cell phones. MOST internet browsers that are built in, are WAP browsers. WAP browsers CAN NOT view standard web pages (that are written in HTML), they cant only view pages that are specifically built for wireless devices.

There are some exceptions to this, newer smart phones are now coming with HTML browsers included (things such as the samsung "i" series, and the more expensive nokia phones). These are able to view any webpage.

Spring and Verizon both offer wap service to thier telephones for a charge per month, to use thier WAP Gateway.

Your phone ---- Wap Gateway ---- Internet

You WAP gateway does NOT have to be from Verizon or Spring. It can be any gateway that you choose (there are settings in your phone, where you can enter the IP and port number).

This is NOT illegal, and is supported by verizon and sprint. Here's why: When you connect to the internet you use minutes, now if you get free nights and weekends, and you use it during this time period its no big deal, but what you have to remember is minutes actually aren't free. When it all calculates out, your phone carrier is still making money on you, but you using your minutes.
