ok no offense but fargostreet is a little thing in the tri state area so lets get those guys from mpls/st paul and others around here if we give it enough advertisment people will come

I agree, thats why I advised shane (earlier in this post) to post this on the aarrf.com website as they have a fairly large core of good drifters. Llew Montgomery is well known in the drift community of Mpls/St Paul. I'm just saying that the majority of the people who currently are a part of fargostreet do not own RWD cars, so the likely hood of a seeing someone from this forum in a drift event is slim. I honestly hope to god this happens as drifting is very fun to watch when you have good drivers.

Who on here actually has drifting experience? My car could maybe do it, but I've never drifted in my life.

kswiss, shut up. you haven't said anything useful in any of your posts.
no one here knows how to drift the right way, and no one is going to learn fast enough to make a competition worthwhile. why would anyone drive all the way from minneapolis just to drive around a parking lot of cones when they have better places to drive that are closer?

am i the only one that is capable of seeing that almost no one in this area has a mt rwd and the will to drift? without these people, any "drift competition" would be a waste that would result in the import scene getting an even worse stigma than it has now.

I'm with Adam on this one, you guys aren't be realistic...

As much as you'd like to drift your automatic v6 mustang, you won't be seeing it happen.

As chuck said, the only hope to get a drift event here would be to get some people from other places to come here...

I don't think you guys understand what it takes to actually drift... You can't just go step on the gas and expect to be like the guys in the videos.

If your doesn't have enough HP to even spin the rear wheels you aren't going to be drifting. If you can't control when to spin the wheels your car isn't going to be drifting. If you dont have anywhere to learn how to drift you won't be drifting.

Ice, water, and e-brakes don't count as drifting.

Just having a RWD car isn't enough for a car to be a "drift" car. Get off the internet, go jump in a camaro and then come back and tell me that you can drift like the pros... it doesnt happen

Oh and shane im not ripping on your idea, if you could get a real drift even here, i'd def come watch; i'm just asking these people who want to drift thier fwd 100hp cars and 102hp rwd cars to get real

To sum up all the negative and positive comments on the subject.

I was not only including fargostreet members in this "idea". There are alot of other places that people WOULD come from if I were to get this to happen. I am not worried about that. Sioux Falls,Minn,Canada,Minot, etc. We need about 35-45 cars for this. The biggest thing is: finding suitable property(?), an organization to back it(AARRF?), sponsorship to host it(tintmasters), and of course... Cars and people that can do it.

I know the majority of "normal" guys out there can't "drift". But you can't learn to swim................ without water. This would give the opportunity for someone who might like to try it. It was just an idea for the fargstreet members to kick around. I am not worried that we wouldn't have enough people to make this happen.

The "contest" would not be anything. I just want the space and insurance and the organization backing to make it happen. If I can make this happen, there will not be a loser. ALL WINNERS. It will just be for the experience to try something that you otherwise would be doing illegally.

As for people that can drift. I know a couple in Grand Forks. I know a ton from autocrossing last year.(Minot,Canada,Fargo. etc.) Guys that can autocross usually already have the knowledge of how to do it but the mentallity in the sport is not to do it. I can drift, not that I am a pro, not that I am the best, but I can "drift" controlled, stop/start/turn and with speed[50-60mph].Yes on dry concrete, not snow/ice/wet. (Any Grand Forks guys care to back me up on that?)(*cough alerus). I know the professionals drift in the 70-100 mph range. I still need practice and want to practice. The WRX will drift and has. But like Chuck said. It does cause alot of stress (unless you have the correct tires for "drifting") The STi guys will be able to drift without any trouble. (damn tq.) If you wanna see that ask Jeremy(Valley City) I am sure he will show you.

I have already, before the original post, contacted AARRF on this and I am waiting on a reply back. I talked to The Badlands Region SCCA, and they are looking into it. The SCCA currenly has no event for drifting, but they see the intrest and may start having them also.

And do not forget. You guys saying that the FWD cannot drift, are wrong. Ever seen the signal cars. Look closely. There is a square back EF, hanging (mirroring) the other RWD cars. So don't count them out. And they don't need a ton of power either.

Fwd drifting is mostly based around useing your e-brake to induce the slide verses rwd they mostly use the throdle to induce the slide. But they can also use the e-brake too. Here's a site that has some different drift techniques.

                                    http://www.driftcentral.com/index.php?pid=drifttechniques

'93 Dodge Dakota dropped with a borla muffler and custom painted interier. :o

And they don't need a ton of power either.very nice

no one here knows how to drift the right way, and no one is going to learn fast enough to make a competition worthwhile. why would anyone drive all the way from minneapolis just to drive around a parking lot of cones when they have better places to drive that are closer?
hey by the way did you read shanes post ya as i said before he isnt just talking about the grateful fargostreet scene there are a bunch of people who would like to try it and also see people do it the right way.

oh also people drive all the way to the cities to go to the mall what makes you think that they wont drive from there to see a drift event
