I agree that the corporate interests are ruining this country (I'm sure you understand that this doesn't imply an anger inspired by businesses, just the co-mingling of government and financing from private interests).
On a side note, I'm unsure if the higher price of VW TDIs is because of a subsidy that VW is forced to pay, or to recoup the costs of innovation in the newer models. Both explanations are believable, especially since I consume significantly less fuel than I did before; however, VW's newer models are gradually implementing better features and innovations, totally worth the higher price.

I can get 500 miles on a 9 gallon tank with moderate hypermilling, and thats on gasoline.... What's so cool about a diesel with a 17 gallon tank getting 1000 with a pro driver?

Do either of your vehicles weigh 33xx lbs? I didn't think so.No, but I guarantee my car has triple the cargo space than this 320, as well as being able to hold 5 people. The power/weight ratio is probably pretty close though....

Soo Line trains (CP Rail) averaged 517 mpg in 2007. Maybe we should all buy trains for fuel economy and towing capacity?

But the point here is not that your rucus is lighter than a bmw, its that this is a luxury car that gets the same, better in most cases than a encono-box. I doubt this car will ever make it over here, but my next new car will be a 335d. Be prepared to start slowly saying goodbye to new gasoline cars in the next 15 years, diesel is taking over, in some places, it already has.

More tqs than a dodge ram hemi, and just as friendly as a prius

Yes, because a friendly car would stick its own gas pedal to the floor of the car forcing you acclerate with no control(sarcasm). Yes the car is friendly on gas(fact), but not when being forced to be speeding down the interstate with no control over how fast or slow you make the car go(opinion on friendliness of car).
better?
