planning to play enemy territory or doom 3 this weekend, depending on interest. if other games have enough support, we can fire up just about anything. we can provide most games on the spot
are you going to be there jim? or will you be graving as usual? -
if anyone is interested in joining, we're planning to start 9-10pm and play a long time. there will be soda and some form of food product... but you need to bring your pc, the extra ones are spoken for already. you likely won't need an ethernet cable, we have enough for (i think) 4 more people.
anyway, please post here or pm me if you want to show up, we can arrange transportation if necessary... at least, assuming you're not outside the fargo/moorhead area

there are two teams of different classes: soldier- heavy weapons, medic- revives and heals wounded, covert ops- sniper rifles and uniform stealing, field ops- supply ammo and call airstrikes, engineer- construct things and blow things up

actually, now that i think about it... i never really answered your question.
it uses the quake3 engine, but it doesn't look cartoony, like quake 3 arena. i've never played battlefield, so i can't compare, but it isn't as "kill your enemy" as counterstrike looks. it's not quite like most fps because you're not trying to kill, there is an objective (which varies from map to map) that must be completed.
you should bring your pc over saturday and see what you think, it's a great game that is incredibly unpredictable -
the participants are currently as follows:
adam (me)
nathan (housemate, probably after 1am)
chris (guy from school)
jared (amicheze, remote)
joe (assuming his pc is fixed by then)
hutch (has to check work schedule first)the extra machine will be used by either another housemate or someone from work.
we do have a third machine that gets about 20fps on enemy territory, so it's playable, but no one likes to use it because all the other machines have geforce4 or better gpu's -

I just changed companies that host my server, and i'll be getting an email back from the new hosting company by tomorrow. So if they don't get my new server up and running by Sat, i will bring my laptop to the LAN party and run the ET server off there. I have the same configuration set up on my laptop for a server that i do on my ET server that is currently being hosted. Just give me the details on where to go and i can bring the server if need be.
Edit I have 2 computers so we will still be able to have a dedicated server to make the game run better then if it was hosted off a computer that had someone playing on it. I will bring both of them. also, i have a couple of extra routers/switches that ii can bring and see if they work so we can get a bunch of people hooked together. They are wireless, so that helps too. Unless someone has a 20 port switch (which would just be awesome) i think we will need several routers/switches)

Ok, my new server transfered over just peachy, so it's back up and running. We can use if for the LAN party this weekend. It has a great mod running on it, and i added a few new features that we can test out. The ET server address is 66.165.116.34:27960. That'll bring you right to the site if you use it to connect to the IP in the ET server browser. If you have any questions about the server, just PM me.

we have a dedicated server running on linux here
we don't play with any sort of goofy mods, except for the warm-up-type match. we have an 8port 3com switch and an 8port gigabit switch, so i think we'll be ok for networking components. if you have an extra pc, then we will have an extra machine for someone else to play on, so spoolude could show up if he wanted to
