A formal introduction (pics ahoy!)

I finally had access to a digicam, so here's pics of my car.

Its an 1987 Honda Prelude Si 2.0
2.0 Liters. 12-valve. A20A3 engine. The books say 110hp 114tq stock.LankorDie made me the window vinyl for our car club. I guess we're a crew now.

It has its share of "old car" problems. Mostly rust, paint, former accident damage, and other cosmetic stuff. I chose to replace the side trim as it was rusting out and rusting the car under it. Stock rims (13" alloy).

I removed the factory spoiler because it was foam and looked kinda crappy. Replaced it with this free find off an old Grand Prix. I think it looks pretty good. This was done two days ago and I'm still trying to figure out how I want to cover those old bolt holes on the back.
For this car being almost 20 years old, I was pleasantly surprised at the interior. Nice condition, no real damage inside. I just have a CD player for my tunes and some replacement pedals I got as a birthday present from a friend. Also replaced all the speakers (as they were rotted through) with some nice pioneers.

Today I finished stripping out the rear. Back seat gone. Sound deadening tar gone. Spare tire, jack, and cover gone. Headrest, fiberboard, and carpet from the back all gone. The battery got moved to the trunk to make room for my custom cold air intake. I plan on replacing the carpet around the speakers and the top "shelf" to help with looks and sound quality.and now, under the hood...

I had a lot of work to do in this department. I have NGK plugs, and wires. I replaced most of the vaccuum lines (I know, blue=rice). I put a breather filter on my valve cover and it got sanded and re-painted. I had to make a custom cold air intake because nothing gets made for this car. Its just a 3" bent pipe with a K&N filter on the end. I also built the airbox to keep engine heat out. Its made out of sheet aluminum and has a rubber insulator on the inside. I got a sheet of chrome plastic to make the top a little more "candy".
Well that's the car for now. It seems like I spend half my time on it trying to fight age, and the other half turning it into a performance machine. I know these a20a3 engines are pretty hot, so I can't wait to see what it can do with some intense modifying. I know I won't be touching any of you DSM turbo folks, but I'd like to think she can hold her own. I also know I won't be winning any beauty contests.
But its good to be here and fargostreet and I look forward to meeting and learning from all of you. My name's Erik so say hi if you see me out there. Any comments and questions are welcome. Let me know what you think!

Sheet Metal...VERY NICE!

The b20 got put in all the JDM cars (thanks america), and it is easily swappable into mine. This is a 2nd gen lude, 84-87. The 3rd gen's (starting in 88) got the b20. Would've been DOHC instead of SOHC and I would've gotten like another 20 hp....what a difference a year makes.

the B20a5 was used in 88 and 89. The b21a was 90 and 91. Too bad you weren't on here early, I recently sold a B20a5 to out there (I think it was him that I sold it too...I'm getting old and my memory is fading a bit) for $75 including ECU, all the engine harnesses and transmission.
The one thing I really wanted to do w/ my 88 prelude (when I owned it) was either do a ludespeed turbo kit or an H22a swap. Also, I was amazed at how well mine handled w/ Tokico Shocks and Neuspeed race springs. I have yet to feel that kind of handling in any other car I've ridden in, including S2000's, Evo's, WRX's, 350z's, RX7's, M3's, etc... Not bad for a car that is now 16 years old.
Anyways, nice car, I was and always will be a fan of the 2nd/3rd gen preludes. Hope you have fun modding it the way YOU want to.
