    i've had that problem before on my old 93 civic
    the ball joint needs to be a little tighter in the control arm
    i hit the bottome with a hammer to jam it in there or you can jack it up higher to put more pressure on it to wedge it in there.

    that is if i understand the problem.

      Try jacking the control arm far enough that the ball joint seats against the control arm as much as possible, It may even start to lift the car a little. BE CAREFULL!! This should put enough tension on the ball joint to keep it from spinning until you got the nut tight. It's happened to me countless times in the past and has always worked for me. Also try this. If the nut is far enough down on the threads so the cotter pin hole is visible shove something into the hole such as a piece of a coat hanger to try and steady the ball joint to see if that helps. This will only work if you are using a wrench and not a socket. Hope this helps a little.

                Spinning balljoint...typical. What you need to do is get a crowbar and put some pressure on the top of the balljoint, works everytime...trust me, i've used the trick quite a bit. Are you using a wrench or impact? because an impact helps a lot in these situations. PM me if you want anymore detailed info, like I said, I've dealt with this quite a bit on the crx.

                  Thanks for the detailed info! Wes, Sean I will try both and see what works. Sean how do you sneak a crow bar under there? Its a pretty small space.

                  We used the floor jack for the other side, and that one seated fine but this one just wants to be a bitch.

                  I will update if we have more problems.

                    you really cant use an impact due to the axle being right on top of it...
                    is the BJ bad? when they get loose, they tend to do this alot more. also if the threads have any shit on them, or have a slight knick in there, its gonna be a bitch.
                    moral- if the BJ nut is a place where you cant get an impact on it, take it apart where the strut connects to the spindle. dont worry about the alignment, just bolt it back close to where it was

                      Take 10 minutes and pull the axles out. Also, a VERY good idea is to replace the nut, I know the one you have might LOOK fine, but trust me it makes a world of difference.
