Actually if you knew where teh came from you would know why people use it intentionally. Its from the extreamly bad translation of the wing commander game when it first came to the states back in the 80s on NES.

Somethingawful.com also had a fake front page skit back in 2000 that would spell every thing wrong; teh, COOL!!1111111, He;lp, and so on. ( Jeff K BTW )
