CD player problems

lemme take a guess it is a Kenwood or Excelon with the removable MASK face?
seriously though you might be out of luck. as there is prolly a broken wire or more that with the folding down and removing has finally said SCREW YOU I AM NOT WORKING ANYMORE.
have read about this mostly on the Kenwood removable MASK units, but have seen it on Sony, JVC and Panasonic as well.
if under warranty or close then get on it to get it replaced ASAP.

or it could be that he blew the radio fuse but still has continuous power so therefore he'd be able to remove the CD. Pull the deck out and check the fuse on the red wire, if that isn't it, check your fuse block (I suppose it'd make more sense to check the fuse block first...anyways...)

You hit the nail on the head. Its a 3 year old Kenwood fold down with a removable face... Mabye its time to upgrade

is it a motorized face or just a regular flipdown?

helps when you run kenwood exclusively for about 7 years. the first was the first gen MASK unit. held good for about 2 years. then i could do nothing but turn it on and off by way of the ignition key. good thing i had an indash eq/mastervolume control or i would have been hating life. i had an Audiocontrol 4.1 indash unit. but i was stuck on the same cd for too long. this unit was a kenwood kdc-9007
the replacement for it was an excelon x-711. worked great, but without my knowledge it slowly faded away til one day i had nothing. preouts slowly faded out. i wondered why it was not as loud but i just figured it was age and hearing loss. this one lasted about 5 yrs though.
but i recall reading on various car audio forums about the kenwood lineup having issues with the MASK face as time passed. now they have no MASK face as they once did.it was a fast decision and one i am not sure i am happy with but currently i am using an eclipse unit. great clarity but minimal on features from what i am used to and many features i will prolly not use.
but it sure sounds great.good luck in the search for a new one.
kenwood was on my list again,b ut they just felt cheap and had too much wiggle in the face when you wanted to press buttons on it. so i passed.Monty

Don's stereo is a approved service center for kenwood, their in gf, good guy real small buisness, but if it's not under warranty (which i'm willing to bet its not) he can still fix it, the price, as i'm sure you know, can vary and be pointless, but for $20 he'll look at it and let you know if it's worth it.
Just my .02
I have a excelon flip face too, and i'm lucky she still works.
Just countin' the daysBtw, sometimes it's the ribbon, which can be cheap, under 50 to 75, just lettin' know

that is what it is called. a ribbon.
i had read it earlier this summer where a guy had fixed his, but could not recall what that was called. i could see it in my mind though.Monty
