Subaru: 1...Torque Converter: 0

Well, my drivetrain outlasted my torque converter it appears. It's slipping like crazy....grrrr.... Anyhow, now Harwood can say he beat me off the line...LOL
PS. Nice Rims Harwood
-
dude that sucks.
i too smoked ya off the line:)
and i too like the new rims Harwood -
Didnt you just buy that TC? Damn that sucks. Should look into a manual swap, just spend the $$$$ and get the STI 6spd tranny.
-
Well, I would buy the 6spd manual tranny, but it seems that you have to shift way too often on the trip down the 1320 to make it really worthwhile for drag racing. It sounds like protorque is gonna warranty it as well.
Another thing about the 6spd swap is that it is a real pain in the ass to go from auto to 5 or 6 speed in the WRX. Several people on nasioc have given up already after investing several thousand dollars and unreal amounts of time getting it to work right.
-
you dont want to do the 6 spd swap anyones...i know a guy who is on his 3rd tranny now!
-
Yeah, this will be a good chance to do the valvebody kit and maybe look @ strengthening the trans internals anyway. The auto trans is supposed to hold together until around 500 WHP, but if I have it down anyway....
-
Yeah, but nothing shifts quicker than an auto hence the reason easystreet is using one for their 9 second cars. Chalak and Kaaz are manuals as well from what I can gather.
-
At least Protorque is warrantying (is that even a word???) it for me. Gotta love companies that warranty race parts.

Joe @ Protorque had no ideas...he did ask if I knew the other guy from Fargo that uses Protorque TC's though...so I guess that makes you famous Dave. No, I don't have an additional tranny cooler yet, but I do have the ability to monitor trans temps w/ my ECU and nothing was out of the ordinary there. I will probably be getting a trans-cooler very very soon though, just for added safety.
The weird thing is I wasn't even launching hard or anything when it went. I revved to about 3k on an STi for all of about 3 seconds about 5 minutes earlier. Then I went to park the car in a parking lot for a few minutes, and when I went to drive it it made a grinding noise similar to what you'd hear if the starter stuck (only much quieter) that changed pitch depending on RPM. It sounded like it was coming from the bell housing area and seeing how the only thing spinning in the tranny while it is in park is the TC I just assumed that must be what the problem is. The other thing that is weird is when I drove it home it would be fine for a few blocks and then start slipping, just like if it were a bad clutch. It affected both forward and reverse gears. If I let it sit for a while (even 2-3 minutes) and restart it it would drive fine again for 6-8 blocks. I'm hoping it's just the TC. Does it sound like I'm on the right track of diagnosis here?

Tjamz, what kind of ECU do you use? UTEC?
-
Sounds like the converter... what does the fluid look like on the dipstick?

looks normal Dave.
Adam, yes I have utec but I also have a supplemental program that I downloaded from either WRXhackers or ProjectWRX that monitors the trans temp. I looked and they don't have it on hackers anymore, which doesn't surprise me since they lost a lot of stuff since the revamp of the site a couple months back.

Does the trans temp working on the 5mt? I might want to get that hooked up just for showcase wise. Also know any good places to post your car for sale on the internet?
-
dunno if it works w/ manuals or not.
places to list for sale:
autotrader.com
carsoup.com
nasioc.com (if you're selling a subie)
ebay.com
autos.yahoo.com
etc.... -
I sold my civic on autotrader, and that worked out well. Just think I will do autotrader and nasioc. Do must people get good luck through nasioc?
-
dunno....only know a few people in real life that are on that board.
