I could care less what damn party a person belongs to. Bush has done absolutely nothing to gain my support, how can you be a good president when damn near 25% of your time in office is spent on vacation. When he gives his all so well planned out speeches they all sound like broken record, he says the same thing over and over again. And the people that attend these speeches are all carefully sorted out so only the right questions are asked and he has 100% of the audiences support. He alway says we're going to win the war on terrorism, Bullshit, He's fuckin' delusional, at best it can only be slowed down. Why doesn't he just say "I'm going to end world hunger". He says we have to keep troops in Iraq to protect the US from terrorists, doesn't that sound kinda redundant. How do you protect your homeland when most of your troops aren't in your homeland and you cut shit loads of defense spending and close bases? But yet it's ok to give the country you just blew the shit out of billions upon billions of dollars to fix what we destroyed, I will say "some good came of that money" but not enough to justify all the other bullshit. Like I already said I have no political party preference, I only call it like I see it. As far as G.W. getting re elected, well I've got three opinions on that.

The good part about him getting re elected is that he can't run for a third term.

To elect somebody based soley on there party has got to be the dumbest shit I've ever heard of, there are some pretty dumb motherfuckers out there.

Somtimes "The Majority" means all the fools are on the same side.

I will finish by saying that if any of the forementioned statements comtradicts any of your political beliefs I will not hold that against you based on you as person but solely on "you political beliefs. In other words, I may not agree with you in any or all political disussions but that does not mean we can get along or be friends. So no death beams sent through the computer please.

That is the best political statement I've seen come from fargostreet in a long long time. To vote for someone just because they are a republican or democrat is stupid. That'd be like saying you'd vote for Hitler just because he is a registered Republican or Stalin because he's a Democrat.

My #1 biggest gripe I have about President Bush is that he campaigned in 2000 as a "uniter" yet the united states of america has never been more divided.

The biggest problem with the Republican party right now is that they don't know how to be a majority. They keep acting like they aren't the ones in power. IF they'd just step up and say "we're going to put this to a vote, filibuster if you must but we want to move forward" I could more easily get behind them They won the House, the Senate and the Whitehouse for Christs sake! Why don't they act like leaders and do what they feel is right. So what if the dems decide to try and block things, thats part of the process. If they block too much it will hurt them just like not being a leader is hurting the republican party this session.

In other words: We, the people of the united states, elected people to do their job (including exercising minority rights), bring the issues to the table and let them do what they were elected to do.

I think the reason I don't have fond feelings of the Republican party is because they have yet to fight for what they believe in under this president. If they had the balls to lay whatever their agenda is on the line and let the house/senate vote on it and then live with the results I'd be much happier.

Well for the most part this same shit is goin on in the church and the Lutheran church from my opinion. No one will move on a just vote especially on pidily shit that don't even matter. We had a national convention in early august and they had a vote on accepting homosexuals as pastors and condoning same sex unions. Well as much as I didn't like it, I knew it was gonna get voted down. And it did after hours upon hours of debate. Its all the same anywhere you look and theres politics theres gonna be a majority of people that don't want anything different to happen.

It sounds good to say that you wouldn't vote "solely" because they are Dem or Rep, but if a person has actual convictions and believes things should be a certain way they are bound to be either left leaning or right leaning. If someone says they are middle of the road, or don't care what party someone is from that just means that you haven't figured out what you believe in. That said, of course you look more into what the people running for office believe in (or say they believe in) than just what party they are from. But, if you have firm beliefs then you are logically going to head toward one party or the other.

edit Whoops, my apologies for following this thread way off topic. Funny GW Pacino pic at the beginning. 😄 😄

I disagree there Dave, at least to a degree. I don't think either party fits me or 70% of americans 100%. There are certainly things I like about the Republican party such as Gun Owners Rights, and their stand on abortion (to be honest I'm not 100% pro-life, I just don't like abortion being used as a form of birth control), and their core belief in fiscal conservativism. There are things I like about the Democrats though too such as rights for homosexuals (not necessarily marriage, but similar rights to what "straight" people get), broader views of the world rather than what is just taught in the Christian Bible (not that the bible isn't a good way to live YOUR life, just that other people shouldn't be forced to live THEIR life by those same guidelines so long as they are not breaking the major laws such as murder, robbery, etc..), their willingness to help the poor in our country (again, not a HUGE fan of welfare, but if managed right it could be a good thing in SOME situations).

Right now I don't see the President as being fiscally conservative by any means (heck Matt even agreed that he's spending too much) nor are the Dems fiscally conservative. The major difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Democrats spend spend spend and then tax the people to pay for it whereas the Republicans spend spend spend and then borrow the money from foreign countries to pay for it....either way the people of the United States end up paying the debt as borrowing money from foreign countries is just a tax deferment at best.

Edit YAY off topic political talk again on here....reminds me of last year in Sept/Oct/Nov

I hate politics, the only politics I know is that I hate liberal beliefs and that I mostly agree with republican beliefs. That is all I know. 🙂 Might as well stay off topic now...heh.

I really like what tjamz said there, that he doesn't like either party 100% I think thats how most average people feel, I'm republican because I like more republican ideal's then democrat ones. I guess I just wanted to say well said.

                      1. I didn't vote for Gore. Don't like the guy.

                      2. Prove to me that Kerry was anti-war (I hope you've done your research here). he did his time AND voted to go into Iraq based on the info that the president provided us. Once it was found that we went in on false pretenses he openly stated that we need an exit stategy. BUSH is the one that claims Kerry was antiwar. BTW, which one of them actually went to Vietnam and which one went AWOL to go campaigning?

As for fighting over here or over there, the obvious answer is over there....in Afghanistan...you know, were Osama is hiding....Taliban ringing any bells. Instead lets go after the guy that has never been even accused of murdering a US citizen...yes, they shot some planes out of the sky when we liberated Kuwait and killed some military people during the first gulf war, but that was war and those were soldiers. And no, I don't think that Saddam was a nice guy, he was a tyrant that controlled his people with fear and terror. He also had a sworn hatred for Al Qaeda which has been documented many times.

A political thread, eh? I thought I might as well throw in one of my "grand observations" here. You can tell me if you think it fits well.

Today we are told that the two major schools of political thought are conservatisim and liberalism. However, as people are stating here, sometimes it is hard to draw the lines for such a classification system.

Instead, I have developed what I believe to be more of an accurate classification system: Individualists vs Collectivists

Individualists: MOST conservatives would fall into this category. This group believes in self-reliance, and the power of the individual. If everyone can do their best, society will reach it's greatest heights. This group of people tend to live in rural areas, and engage in more "rugged" activities.

Collectivists: MOST liberals would fall in this category. This group believes that as a whole, a society can be greater than the sum of it's parts. Working together, society will reach it's greatest heights. This group of people tend to live in urban and suburban areas, and engage in more "civilized" activities.

There are dozens and dozens of tendancies I have developed and tested for each group that hold true almost all of the time, but this is actually all based in common sense, and I am sure anyone can draw their own inferences from these.
