that was kind of silly... luckily, we've only lost one piece of hardware to due improper handling in the nerd cave: nathan tried to play with live wires near our old gigabit switch (just as well, it was crap anyway)
if you and/or bill plan to join from home, you should make sure you have a microphone and headphones to use teamspeak. -
yep, if we have enough people, enemy territory or bf1942. otherwise... with 4-6, we have a variety of rts or maybe quasi-rpg (diablo 2, neverwinter nights)
i suppose it would depend on whether or not this ventrilo is linux friendly or not, that's the main reason we use teamspeak, and it makes playing et way easier. with bf1942, i just set up a dedicated server on my laptop -

what games would you rather have us play? the games that we play are readily accessable to everyone for very little money. some of us have larger expenses than frivolities, such as a house/rent, school and food. anyone that happens to drive (which i'm avoiding this semester), then they've got the extra car expenses too. factor all of that in, and spending $50-70 on a video game is one expense that isn't as necessary. i don't know about you, but (if i were still working and not going to school full-time) i would rather eat for a week than have another video game when i'm still entertained and challenged by what i have.
if gaming were a higher priority, i would buy games and machines so that more people could just come over and play. however, if i dumped that much money into equipment and software, then i would want people to pay for the privilege of playing at lan parties (similar to lan-tech on university). however, i don't ask for anything (except donations for munchies) when people come over to play. nathan and i have built 2 extra machines that play everything quite nicely, and we don't ask for anything in return.
i don't charge for soda, water, munchies (whether i whip up some pot of stuff or just buy chips), electricity, machine usage, space, parking, internet connection, etc... the list goes on. my intent in organizing all of these events is because i know that most other people like to play games against real people (hence two player mode) instead of just cpu controlled characters. well, the only way to play against other people is to make it possible for others to join in, and not everyone has a fast enough connection... so we set up a large enough network and invite people over. everything kind of fell together. -
