Dubbsy I wouldnt go for the E815 unless you think you will be using the VCast...thats about the only difference...motorola had to answer the VX8000 to make up for the lack of VCast on the V710...same phone without VCast(i think it has more internal memory, but who cares when 256mb card is under $40 with SD adaptor?)...I thought there were some other differneces as well...
MisterCMK has the V710 and has had quite a few issues with it...trying to replace it with the E815.Did just rule out the Samsung though... just realized you can't use that one as a modem (atleast with the information I'm reading here).

Ok, bullshit. I just got my vx9800 like 9 days ago and they didnt have this phone then. I thought this thread was about the a950, not this new a970.
Oh well on the phone with them right now getting them to send me the a970 instead, hahha. Main reason is I want the 2.0 megapixel over the 1.3 of the vx9800..
IMO go with the a970, especially since it takes nicer pics.. and it has the voice to text feature so you dont need to type yoru text's..

- You CAN use MP3's as Ringtones on the 9800... LG's have had this capability for a long time. Since you have bluetooth you can either connect wirelessly or you can buy a datacable (i hear the 8100's data cable is compatible). You will need a program called BitPim or QPST. You must move your MP3's around in the file structure of the phone to get to use them. Its really quick and painless to do.
Your BEST resource for any phone related discussion / questions / how to's is:
- Motorola's suck. Period. I have never owned a single motorola phone that hasn't been buggy as all helly / chinsy in design. Not to mention the controls on the phone are ass backwards from everything else in the world. The end button is in the spot where you would think the send button is, etc...
HOWEVER you can use them as a modem. You just need to enable Dial Up Networking (DUN) in the settings.
This new generation of phones (Example: v710, VX8000 and up...) all are capable of most of the same things regaurdless of the different manufactuers. The most noticeable difference is that in the cameras, bluetooth, and memory storage options.
The 9800 is obviously a "must-have" for the tech guru who wants to have the latest and greatest, its very impressive to look and and so forth. However, as much as I like it, I found that using the QWERTY keyboard was cumbersome to use, and that the size was a little too big. I was able to text with T9 a little bit faster (not saying I wouldnt get used to the 9800). The cool thing about the 9800 is that DUN via Bluetooth is enabled (thats a first)... I dont know if it means much to you guys but basically here in fargo we only have 1x RTT which is aka the Express Network, giving you about the speed of a 56k modem.
When EV-DO finally becomes available here in Fargo (sch. release in Jan 2006), we will be able to use our EV-DO phones to connect to the internet, send pix and txt messages quickly and so forth. EVDO and VCAST are different. EVDO is simply the speed and network taht you connect to just like 1x rtt, vcast is a service offered over the EVDO network. Vcast costs $15 a month, includes some free videos and also includes mobile web (wap access). Not worth it, you can tether your EV-DO phone to a PDA or Laptop for access to 2.4mbps internet connection, and if you subscribe to VCAST you don't get billed minutes at all... (if you don't pay the $15 it costs minutes only... which is still a sweet deal).
Anyway back on topic, if I had my choice, I would buy neither the 9800 or the A970... there's a bunch of new phones that are just down the line here tha I would prob hold out for, we're at the end of this "current" generation of phones and theres some pretty crazy stuff coming out...
If i HAD to decide, I'd pick the 9800 just becuase it looks cool... but thats becuase im shallow i think...
If you want the ultimate, I would go with what torbs said maybe and check out the Bluetooth enabled 8100, for $100. Save your money up, and buy a Bluetooth enabled PDA as well.
This would allow you to browse the web, and stuff with actual HTML pages, not just WAP formatted ones... trust me wap is fucking boring...

i don't hve my upgrade until nov 14th... let me know pros and cons... thanks a lot man... -
Well Ive now owned both the vx9800 and a970. The a970 wins hands down, half the size, twice as good pics and vids... will take as long of vids as the memory card can hold. The only positive the vx9800 has is the keyboard... but once you factor in the voice-to-text that the a970 has that really doesnt matter..
