Any V8 Rx7's? ;o)
-
The thread starter LOL, I like V8s but only in the proper cars. The fastest RX is still rotary powered
and I have always wanted to race a V8 seven just to see why some think they are so great. I did have a LT1 once and have the piston to prove it LOL. Personally I find the rotary to be a better motor. The LS1 now on the other hand is prolly a better motor but still would not change out the rotary in my 7 under no cicumstances. I would sell it before I did that. Once agian these are just my opinions and each is intitled to their own. -

I used to own 2 different Rx-7's that I replaced the rotary engine in. I had a 87 GXL that I blew up and replaced the engine with a 4.3 Vortec V6 from a S10 blazer with a t-5 5 speed transmission. Fun little car with lots of power, was totaled 4 years ago after I was t-boned by a pickup.
Right after my 87 got wrecked I found a 89 Turbo 2 car that someone had pulled the engine and tranny from, scored the complete rolling chassis for $600 and proceded to build a V8 RX-7. I started with a Grannys Speedshop V8 kit and installed a GM ZZ4 Crate engine and a custom built T-5 tranny. It was running about 400 hp the way I had it set up for a while. Then at a swap meet I got a 6-71 blower for a heck of a deal, and strapped that to the engine. During tuning, the car dynoed over 700hp, I had planned on putting on a 150 shot of NOS also but never got around to it, because I figured I would blow the engine up. Ended up selling the car in October of 2004 to a guy in Arizona. Not sure if it is still running, but I'll tell you what, it was the fastest car I have ever owned. Unfortunatly I never have any 1/4 times for the car, because every time I planned one running it I broke something, like I killed the tranny once, and blew up the rear end 3 times.
I'll tell you what those cars are a blast to run with v8's.

Does anyone have anytime slips of the fastest V8 RX7? I know siguel racing has a high 6 second rotary powered 7 and the fastest "true street" 13B Rx7 I know of run 9.1 in the 1/4 with full interior and stereo and all that. Anyway this is the classic import vs. domestic argument. I like both and would love a new Z06 with the 500HP. Either way I have beaten and been beaten by both. So I do not really see one being any better than the other. Naturally I am gonna side with the rotary cuz I have one as NDTA will side with the LT1. Anyway once you start pouring the coals to any motor reliablity usually goes out the window. Anyone with the LT1 ever sees the TII around dont be shy to come see if I wanna run em. You know a good place and I will go run em. Take Care guys and Happy Thanksgiving!

I'll be willing to give it a go....how bout "The track" -
I dont run the track but I will give it a go, I also dont run in the snow LOL. I did manage to pull on a 03 ZO6 though and Weshole was riding shotgun on that experience if ya wanna ask him about it. I figure not bad for the little mid 80s designed 1.3L. So ya I will pit the 1.3L up against your 5.7L I figure what the hell have I gotta lose your engine is newer and has over 4x the cubes. Just let this snow melt and we will be off. Just send me a PM when the roads are clear and ya wanna run em. I dont run the track because its a lotta cars outta my league. Cars runnings slicks, race gas, high boost, gutted interiors and so on. I ran my NA RX7 out there and could not hook up for shit with that. I cant imagine doing it with this one. So ya I am up for a friendly little match up somtime. I have owned both LT1 and rotary and my faith lies with the rotary :).

Sounds good to me.EDIT: will you be using slicks at all?
Also, we should try to find someone with a digi...I want to get it on tape!

Ok sounds good, no I dont run slicks. I run a set of cheap Fuzions LOL. I think the fact that I dont run slicks was the reason for the shitty hook ups at the track with the N/A. Anyway I try to keep my car as close to true street as possible. The only thing not street is the emmisions crap is gone. However it was gone before I got it. Other than that I run 15lbs or less on pump gas, my car has not reached the level of power required for race gas. Prolly never will as I plan on calling the car done. As there is a lot of other stuff I like spending my $ on. Anyway sounds like fun, I will run the track if there is a day where street tires are a must and they dont spray water. Anyway just send me a PM maybe there will be 1 more day yet this yr if this dang snow melts.

I feel ya with a lot of other stuff I like spending money on. I have too many hobbys. You should go on the street days at the track. You can drive around the water box.
And I won't be racing any this year. The car is allready up on stands.

Cool, ya my car looks like it will be parked for the year as well now. Ya maybe I will try the street days. It would be cool to know about what it will run. I prolly just need more practice at the track. I have only ran there once about 3 yrs ago. When I was there I felt way outta my element like most of those people take the whole car scene a lot more serious than I do. I like cars and speed but obviously not as much as some others LOL. Well it was nice chattin with ya. We will have to meet up next spring/summer then. The loser can buy the other a cold one. Sorry but thats all I can afford to lose

LOL no I dont hate ya, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I have personally thought about selling my 7 and going with a mid 90s 300ZX TT or just go for broke and get 05 stang. I just cannot drop a piston engine in the 7. The ONLY reason I have that car is cuz the rotary. I just wanted to see what these cars were all about. The electronics suck, the motors are running on a razors edge when it comes to reliability once you start the mods. So no I dont hate ya.The only thing fun about em is when you beat engine twice to 5Xs there displacment. It also means you are lways expected to lose so when you do no big deal. When your running 1300cc engine in a car you cannot expect a real lot. I like the motor because relistically it is still basically a "concpet" motor. If I could afford a new 05 Stang GT and some 1/2 ass decent mods I would ditch the RX in heartbeat.
Camaro Z28- No I did not run shit for a time cuz I had a NA RX7 then. I dont know what I would run now. I know the car goes pretty damn good now as I have a fresh street ported 13BT and the turbo I am running is a BNR stage 3 and I got the basic mods to go with that such as FMIC injectors and so on. I still am not running a stand alone or anything though. I have not dyoed it but BNR claims 350rwhp with the turbo. I know it goes pretty damn good. This is my 1st turbo car so I am still learnign a lot. I am a V8 guy at heart and prolly will be again someday. Just had to try the whole import thing out. I figured what is more foriegn to a V8 guy than a pistonless motor. Here is the turbo I bought.

if ur car was N/A i could remotely believe that statement. but when u throw a power-adder on any car, it becomes competition for the most part. them few sentences sound like they came from someone who is just getting into the car scene

seems like a good turbo. come out to the track next april/may and see what she will do. them cars come with good susupension and hook hard at the track, u can try it on street radials, but i would recommend some D/R's.
TTYL
P.S. dont waste ur cash on an 05

Thanks, ya I never said my life was cars LOL. So I am not neck deep into the car scene. I just do it for fun. I know about the power adders and so on. Even with that said there is NA RX7s that would put a hurting on my turbo. Like Jesus Padillia. Thanks for the compliment on the turbo though. I figured it would make a nice streetable turbo. I really am not a "tuner" and like to keep my car as simple as possible. So I figured that turbo would prolly take me as far as "I" could go on pump gas and a stock ECU with basic piggybacks (safc). Anyway I may give the track a try again next year who knows. The RX7 was never really designed for drag racing but surprsingly does pretty good. When I bought the car I was looking for a car that could do a little of everything and was not real common. Anyway I know the turbo is a power adder but I also look at displacment itself as a power adder so to speak. Once again just my way of looking at it. Anyway I never self proclaimed myself to be a expert tuner, or that my backround is deeply rooted into the car scene. I just have my own views and like to have fun with the cars. I am a former Jarhead who is deeper into firearms and the politics of war past and present than I ever will be of who the local celebrity is out at the Interstate Dragways track is. Anyway I really have to stop posting on this thread. I see people get attacked for constantly posting on the same thread. So ya wanna chat more PM me. Otherwise I will see ya guys around.
Take Care
