something wrong with reverse please help

ok i went to school yesterday and i got stuck in the parking lot in a snow drift so i just kept putting it in reverse then drive reverse then drive ect. but a little while after that later in a the day when i put it in reverse and back up it makes a loud low hum noise but the reverse still works fine does anyone know what this might be?
