Help with camcorder purchase
-
well im in the market for a camcorder i have never owned one before so i dont know what im looking at.
basically i want something that is going to make good quality video's and something rather small in size because i would like to use it with a helmet cam
i also want something that is easy to get the video on a computer
this is something i plan on having for long time so price isnt the biggest worry if the quality is there
any help would be great, thanks

One other thing to look for is a decent optical zoom. 20X is the norm but the higher the better. The one I got happened to be 30X. Check it out.
It wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. Good bang for the buck.

stay away from dvd cam corders. they wont be small enough anyway.
you want a mini dv camera .... things to look for are resolution and lens quality. low light and night shot. also usb is only used for still photos only firewire for video.... ill post more later
posting from my phone so hard to go in to detail

Sounds like this could be used for filming some 50's -
yeah, i havent heard anything good about the DVD camera's....i think there pretty much worthless...anything you tape your probably going to want to edit it anyways, ide rather just do a minidv and transfer thru DV which basically all computers have now anyways.
helmet cam? screw the bikes, i see porn coming from that! i want one!

I have a Sony DCR-HC21 and love it. It's small and light. Takes good videos and I bought an aftermarket battery for it that lasts for a long ass time, probably like 7 hrs or so. It does 20x Optical zoom and 800x Digital zoom. I think you'd be happy with one.

JVC Everio GZ-MG40. Compact, 20GB internal HD, not the cheapest camera on the market, but very good (I have one and love it).
List is $900, PM me for price I'd sell it to you for Schell

interesting.
i borrowed an older vhs-c camcorder for HIN this past weekend.
better low light would have been nice
more zoom would have been nice. it had 16x optical and 300 digital, but digital was turned off.
battery life was pretty poor. about 2hrs with a duracell battery. had to stopat walmart for a new one on the way to chicago. they were 30 each so i picked up a pair of them. sure glad i did that.
30 or 90 minutes per tape. depending on which mode you chose.
but the tapes were cheap.what are the benefits of doing the hard drive based ones?
do they come with software to put movies onto DVD from these hard drive based camcorders?Monty
