I've always found the stuff on BME quite interesting. Not necessarily something I'd do but for some reason the culture interests me.

In my past I was DEEPLY in to body modification, I am still interested in the culture and I am still in to it, but I'm not nearly as deep in to it as I used to be. I am a member of iam.bme and I know a LOT of the people that are in the more extreme pictures on that site.

As for the implants they are nothing new by any means and they won't become mainstream like tattoos/piercings have.

They are a surgical procedure where the area is cut open with a scalpel and a "pocket" is created. If the pocket is too small there will painful tearing, if it is too big then the implant will float freely in the area and won't turn out the way the client wants it. The implant is slid into place and the area is stitched shut. The problem with these subdermal implants is the possible negative effect on nerve and muscle tissue. There is something putting pressure on them that isn't supposed to be. A lot of the subdermal implants are poorly thought out and poorly placed and, yes, a lot of them are removed due to damage caused by them.

If you are truely interested in this kind of stuff then ask me anything, if I don't know the answer I definately know where to find it. 🙂

Interesting fact as long as we are on this subject. Anesthetic is illegal to own or use unless you are a doctorr. Yes, there are ways of getting it, but, because of the mindset of a lot of the people in the body modification culture about 80% of the implant pictures (or other "surgical" procedures you see on BME) were done with a clear mind and no anesthetic. 🙂

I personally am quite interested in body mods and piercings. Recently I went from 8ga in my earlobe to a little bigger than 2ga using a taper and finally a scalpel, fun stuff, did it myself btw. I've always liked the idea of barbells in my forearms, but so far haven't done it. I'm not too big on tatoos tho, too permenant. Is some emo kid really going to think that full sleeve tattoo with a bleeding heart or like a skull or something is totally rad when he's 30 and trying to get a job? Of course I suppose if you 'want' to work in a music store for the rest of your life...

Similar to the implanting idea, there was a guy I heard about(I assume theres more than just him though) that implanted a piece of coral reef in his forehead for horns. Well, the body saw it as dead cells, so it "rebuilt" and now it is living flesh.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!
