I personally am quite interested in body mods and piercings. Recently I went from 8ga in my earlobe to a little bigger than 2ga using a taper and finally a scalpel, fun stuff, did it myself btw. I've always liked the idea of barbells in my forearms, but so far haven't done it. I'm not too big on tatoos tho, too permenant. Is some emo kid really going to think that full sleeve tattoo with a bleeding heart or like a skull or something is totally rad when he's 30 and trying to get a job? Of course I suppose if you 'want' to work in a music store for the rest of your life...

Hey, just incase you didn't know about this:

for easy to stretch stuff like ears/nose/lip, don't mess around with tapering or cutting, just take you existing plug and wrap it in plumbers tape (unless you're allergic; doubt it) and stick it back through. If you don't mind some discomfort you can stretch relatively quickly this way, I took my nose from a 8 to 2g in about 2 weeks of not really pushing it. I should have the 0g in soon. Added bonus: you can avoid having to purchase all the in-between sizes...
