Looks like someone took a dump in the trunk.

I bet it'll sound good though.

yeah, the resin ain't too pretty when its being put down. You won't be seeing the inside of the box anyway so I wasn't too concerned about making the floor all purdy. Of course, everything will be covered in some sort of material (maybe vinyl, maybe carpet, maybe suede, maybe micro-suede...who knows) Hopefully this weekend will allow me some time to finish off more of it.

What product do you use so the resin doesn't stick when making a mold ? I understand this is the secret many fiberglassers hold.

Blue painters tape. That is all. Do two layers of it and you are golden (1st layer running one way...say left to right, the next layer the other way...say front to back). Some of the tape will stick to the form, but who cares if its not a piece that is seen?

couple updated pics here....decided on a recessed subwoofer mounted inverted. Still have a LONG freaking way to go, but here is the rundown on what you will see on these pics....as stated before, we went recessed/inverted on the set up, if you look closely you will see removable dowels under the rings adding temporary support. The dowels were attached via CA Glue to the sides of the box 4.5" down. Then the rings were adhered to the dowels w/ CA Glue once they were centered. After getting them set up correctly, I stapled fleece along the rabbited edge of the upper ring and then stretched & stapled the fleece to the surrounding wood for shape. This was followed by a heavy coat of resin to soak through the fleece. Once the resin has cured overnight, I will remove the 3/4" MDF strips that were being used to hold it in place from the enclosure. By using strips you eliminate sagging better than stapling to just the edges. I also will need to build the amp rack so that it sits semi-flush with the floor. We are waiting on the amp to come to do a proper template. Once the strips are off and the amp rack is complete, I will glass the fleece under them and then begin the process of shaping the box using bondo and "Milkshake" to create a smooth finish. Then its sand sand sand until I run out of sandpaper and move on to some more bondo (Rage Gold) until it looks right. once we have the proper shape it will be time to cover the enclosure in the material of the owners choice. Right now he's leaning towards carpet, but a number of other options exist. I personally like micro-suede, but we'll see.

the "Fish Foam" seals and reinforces the box while allowing a sandable, shapable surface to build from. It isn't the "Great Stuff" expanding foam in a can, this is application specific foam that has to be measured and mixed to work properly. Did I NEED to use it on this box? Nope, I could have just glassed everything and called it good, but that would be boring and more complicated.

                          Little more done tonight:

Built the amp rack & wire trough; did a quick milkshake guidecoat; wrapped enclosure in felt; applied resin; cut out openings....

                          Tomorrow night:

Duraglass, Rage Gold, Milkshake, Sand, Sand, Sand, Sand

Whenever amp & sub arrive: Make final trim panels, cover enclosure, kick Stephens ass for letting him let me talk him into this.

it won't weigh all that much, trust me, stephen wouldn't let me do it if it was gonna weigh a ton. Right now I can EASILY lift it with one hand, the sub will add like 21 lbs, and the amp another few, but other than that it won't be too bad. I'll have to put it on the scale when I'm done to know for sure.
