Helmets...

I never really noticed before I got a bike myself, but it seems like more than 80% of the riders I see in town are not wearing helmets. I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind this, it seems absolutely crazy to me. Not crazy like 'oooo, i'm living on the edge, cool' crazy, but 'i believe that my brain is not a fragile mass surrounded by fluid, but actually a durable object' crazy. Any ideas?

I'm sure its motorcycles...and i'm sure its due to there being no law requiring a helmet.

Funny part is, in the cities, that figure is reversed. I rarley see guys down there without a lid. Sportbike guys that is. For cruisers, I think I see a helmet on one of every 20. Seriously.

I think it has a lot to do with the usage of a motorcylce. Up here they are a toy that people have to use for recreaction on nice days and theres no commuting in this town. If people were using them as their primary source of transport and/or had to drive them in traffic I think you'd see a lot more helmets.

I see a lot of Fargo riders that dont wear helmets. The point of "I dont wear a helmet because I want all the chicks to see my pretty face and to know that I AM a badass!!!" was nailed right on. When I first started riding like 5 years ago, I NEVER wore a helmet. That lasted till my first accident when I decided to go get my helmet only about an hour before I plastered myself on the pavement that night...never been on a bike without one since then. Riding with no helmet is plain RETARDED...end of story!

The main reason to care is when they crash and cause the doctors spend hours piecing the guy's skull back together, and running up a huge bill which then affects our insurance rates. Or if you know the guy personally, then I guyss it's ok to care too.

I agree, the main reason is that the rest of us pay through the ass for the cleaning of teeth, oakleys, and hair product out of the back of somebodys ford escort when some douchebag decides to purchase an R6 as his first bike and 'whoa this is alot faster than I thou..smack. You pay both in insurance premiums and in taxes.
Another reason is that people already think sportbike riders are douchebags (see: stoppies on 13th in traffic, wheelies on the overpass :icon_thumright: ) and squiding around without any gear on just adds to that perception, and I'd rather not be lumped in with that.
Girls don't care what kind of bike you ride or how fast it is, all they see is shiney, bright colors, and loud noises. So if you put a helmet on, theres even more bright and shiney to giggle about! Anyway, if the first thing a girl likes about you is your bike, I'd say she fits firmly into the brainless twat catagory. Isn't tuning cars and bikes more about impressing your boyfriends anyway? Oh wait, im suuuuure girls care about your MaD TyTe Rimz from JAPAN YO!

i have always wore a helmet when i have road my sisters bike. and i feel alot safer with it on... plus how in the hell do there eye's not water constently.... i didn't wear a helmet and couldn't see with in a block. i turned around and put it on...
