if you like RPG's and don't mind paying monthly for them....Everquest2 for the PC. Or World of Warcraft. Both are great games.

both of the above are massively multiplayer. EQ2 is more geared toward grouping whereas WoW is more solo content.

aight. but hey you know this brings up another question. What would i need to play games like doom 3 or half life 2 or everquest to with no choppyness. like i figure id need an upgraded vid card from a 64 to a 256 mb (ati 9600 or 9800 all in wonder is what im looking at 90 bucks). with dual corsair memory equaling 1024 mb. yeah cause i have doom 3 and i cant play it on my computer its to slow and choppy probably because i have 64 megabyte vid card and 512 meg. could there be any other problems too?
-
definitely get a new video card. if you want doom 3 to run well definitely go with a 256. hl2 runs fine on mine. (radeon 9600se.. 128mb agp) dont bother getting an all in wonder unless you want to watch tv on your computer. thats really the only extra feature they have.. and they cost twice as much. if you really want a good card.. a geforce 6800 is the way to go. a gig of ram definitely helps too.
-
The problem with newer games like EQ2 you need a good vid card... not just a 256meg that doesnt matter. EQ2 requires a card with a pixel shader and vertex shader. I have a Gforce FX5700 128meg card, but it has the pixel and vertex shaders and the card runs really smooth and fast. Also added another 512megs of ram and got both for roughly $260.

Buy off of newegg.com
If you get an ATI you'll want nothing LESS than a 9600XT/Pro most likely and nothing less than an ATI FX5700, whatever you do, do NOT buy an SE card from radeon, they are the cheapass versions of the card, a 9600SE would be equal to like a 9200...not good.
Id reccomend something like an X700 from Radeon or a 6800 Ultra/Pro/XT if they have them in your price range. 512mb should hold you but another 256-512 wouldnt hurt one bit. Your processor could also be your systems bottleneck, whats the clock on it?
(on and if you do tons of upgrades you might need a new power supply and if you need a processor upgrade you might need a new motherboard depending on the speed of the new one)EDIT: Also, one of the BEST games around is free, created by the US Army, www.americasarmy.com, its a 100% multiplayer game though so you'll need a high speed connection and a moderatly decent computer.

I was playing EQ2 w/ AMD Athlon 1700+, ECS K7S5A Motherboard, 1 Gig DDR 2700, ATI Radeon 9600SE. The vid cards SUCKS ASS, but it was still playable w/ the graphics turned down. I just upped everything on my PC now: AMD Sempron 2600+, ABIT NF72S MB, same ram as b4, Nvidia 6800 OC 128 MB Vid Card. The game screams now. I'd look at a minimum of $250 to spend on a video card (if you buy locally, newegg maybe cheaper). Also, get as much RAM as you can, the faster the better. -
Memory Volume size of the video card has nothing really to do anything with the games of today. Most important features are DirectX 9 features built into the hardware, such as now SM 3.0 (becoming more of a feature on newer games using HL2/Crytek engines) also make sure that your video card supports 8 parrallel pixel pipeline architecture. The ATI 9800 Pro + all the other series will support this, along with most of the Geforce 4's. I myself just put in my new motherboard, which supports PCI Express and am using a 6600GT, my 2nd gaming desktop PC will utilize my old videocard which is a 9800 PRO flashed to an XT, with a VGA silencer running some mild OC.
I would recommend the Geforce 6600 GT - as it uses the same architecture as its overpriced big brother, supports all DX9 features, uses a large trace cache system, 8 pixel pipeline, and if you want to - also has the potential for some mad overclocking abilities.
Please post the specs of your system and I would be more then happy to critque you, and also hook you up with any parts that you need. Please feel free to contact me through PM and I can quote you through my work.

Yep still working there PT as well - way to much for pre X-mas, thank god my schedule came out for next week and Im only working 7 hours a week now.......god bless discount. But if you guys need some quotes on parts please tell me, we usually just don't sell retail parts, but we do have access and I can see what my wholesalers can do. All depends on the product and the vendor. We are a networking company not a PChertz clone.
