Does the DVD player have an optical output?

Get a different receiver. That will not process the 5.1 sound. It will accept the 5 channel inputs and amplify but will not process. You can use the red/white rca cords and then select different modes in the rec. but that will be not be true dolby digital, it is pro-logic. The different modes will just create different phase shifts between front and rear

That unit does not have the decoder built into the unit. It is set up to accept the inputs but not process them. As for a receiver if you do not want to spend big bucks, just go to Walmart or Best Buy. They are fairly cheap for the 5.1
