Anyone ever been cited for this?

So last week, on my way home from my fiance's parents house, I got followed by a cop for about 5 blocks and pulled over as I pulled into my apartment parking lot. The officer said he pulled me over because I had a tail light out (which I didn't previously know about) and asked for my driver's license. I told him that I had simply forgot my wallet inside my apartment (which was 50 feet away). He took my info, and went back to his car. I expected a fix it ticket as the worse case scenario. The officer came back to my car and gave me a $60 ticket for not having my driver's license in my possesion.
I requested a hearing to contest the ticket and this is the first time I've ever contested one. Anyone have any thoughts on my situation?

I know in MN if you don't have license/insurance on you when you are pulled over you just have to present it within 14 days or whatever and the ticket is waived. In my head I think ND is a little stricter on that for some reason...not 100% sure though.

this just happened to me jason, You dont even have to go to the hearing...just go to the court house and show the ticket and your drivers license and they will throw it out.

i knwo you get a ticket if you dont have your liscense with you but i alwalys heard that was a 20 dollar ticket but could have went up i guess

Same kinda thing happened in fergus like a week ago to me. State Patrol pulled me over in city limits for "accelerating too fast." All I had on me was my Passport because my lic is at one of my friends house. All I got was a warning for no proof of insurance and I was on my way 30 minutes later. I hate stupid cops.
Been pulled over 30 sometimes and not a ticket yet!

yes it said i had to pay the fine...if you call the clerk of court she will say just bring it in and we'll throw it out.
or you can just go in and show your stuff and they'll throw it out.

I did call to ask for a hearing on it and they said to either come in to pay the fine and ask for a hearing or to mail the check for the fine and include a letter requesting a hearing.
The thing that pisses me off is that it was an honest mistake and I was at my fricken home when he ticketed me for it. What happens if someone breaks into my home and steals my wallet? Am I not allowed to drive any more? I have a valid driver's liscense and I'm sure the officer pulled up my info and saw this, so what's the point of ticketing me?

Jason, there are stupid laws for stupid reasons, but the officer gave you a ticket in accordance to a law and that's that. Rather than contesting the ticket, question the law. If you don't think its right, tell someone. But he did nothingillegal, so you really can't get that pissed.

There are stupid laws, this is one of them, he has every reason to get pissed. Cops don't have to enforce laws they don't feel are legitimate.

Contesting the law isn't gonna get me my $60 bucks back and that's all I really care about.

Fight it Jason, and use that exact analogy (stolen wallet) to whomever sees your case. You shouldn't have to pay.
-
thats goofy that she told you that...i guess i called the city prosecuters office and thats what they told me.
I couldnt figure out why they even fine you for that when its not illegal...i guess just to try scamming people out of money..stupid police.
you'll win no matter what anyways.

this si how they are going to look at it.... you didnt have your wallet on you at the time.... so you got a ticket.... you can show them your license but in the end when you were pulled over you didnt have it on you... and thats how they are going to see it..... my guess is that law is in place for a good reason.... you just had an encounter with an asshole cop, and theres not much you can do about it.... this is coming from someone who had been ticketed many times for random bullshit, and has tried to fight many of them with a lawyer and has had no success, im not trying to be an ass, but thats just how it is...

he didnt tell the cop his wallet was stolen at the time, so that defense will not work....and if you think about it, when you go to court, you will most likey have to skip out on work.... you lose money that way too (if you get paid by the hour)
