All the cops say to me is that I better have my drivers license with me all the time....I always forget it.

Same kinda thing happened in fergus like a week ago to me. State Patrol pulled me over in city limits for "accelerating too fast." All I had on me was my Passport because my lic is at one of my friends house. All I got was a warning for no proof of insurance and I was on my way 30 minutes later. I hate stupid cops.

Been pulled over 30 sometimes and not a ticket yet!

yes it said i had to pay the fine...if you call the clerk of court she will say just bring it in and we'll throw it out.

or you can just go in and show your stuff and they'll throw it out.

I double checked and it is $60.

I did call to ask for a hearing on it and they said to either come in to pay the fine and ask for a hearing or to mail the check for the fine and include a letter requesting a hearing.

The thing that pisses me off is that it was an honest mistake and I was at my fricken home when he ticketed me for it. What happens if someone breaks into my home and steals my wallet? Am I not allowed to drive any more? I have a valid driver's liscense and I'm sure the officer pulled up my info and saw this, so what's the point of ticketing me?

Jason, there are stupid laws for stupid reasons, but the officer gave you a ticket in accordance to a law and that's that. Rather than contesting the ticket, question the law. If you don't think its right, tell someone. But he did nothingillegal, so you really can't get that pissed.

Sure he can still get pissed. There are stupid laws, this is one of them, he has every reason to get pissed. Cops don't have to enforce laws they don't feel are legitimate.

No shit, but the last thing I'm gonna let slide without a fight is paying money for something this dumb. Contesting the law isn't gonna get me my $60 bucks back and that's all I really care about.

Fight it Jason, and use that exact analogy (stolen wallet) to whomever sees your case. You shouldn't have to pay.

I couldnt figure out why they even fine you for that when its not illegal...i guess just to try scamming people out of money..stupid police.

you'll win no matter what anyways.

this si how they are going to look at it.... you didnt have your wallet on you at the time.... so you got a ticket.... you can show them your license but in the end when you were pulled over you didnt have it on you... and thats how they are going to see it..... my guess is that law is in place for a good reason.... you just had an encounter with an asshole cop, and theres not much you can do about it.... this is coming from someone who had been ticketed many times for random bullshit, and has tried to fight many of them with a lawyer and has had no success, im not trying to be an ass, but thats just how it is... ❤

I'm not saying he should tell them his wallet was stolen. I'm saying he should ask why he was cited when he could have shown proof of his license by just grabbing it. Then ask what people who are victims of theft are supposed to do when they need to go somewhere but don't have the actual plastic license. It's a bullshit law whose only purpose is to get money for the city and to be an excuse to find other laws being broken by the offender.

im not arguing that its a bullshit law, but the point is that he didnt have it on him at the time of being pulled over, i dont care if he was 50 feet or 500 miles away from his house, a law is a law, even if it is a bullshit one.... i know people that have been pulled over with out their license and said they were someone else because they ahd a warrant out for there arrest... and they got away because the cop believed him.... its a law for a reason.... :icon_rendeer:
