I thought I read somewhere that Bill Gates had a 100gbps connection to his house, but maybe that was just a rumor.

Within an LATA, he uses TDM circuits, I believe he is one of the first residential "installs" that used MPLS, which was designed to overcome restrictions on BGP which has the tendency to put a bunch of routes onto one link and leave another one idle, Mr.Gates connection creates "ficticious" links and massages them onto other BGP metrics. Which is essential if you have a VOIP solution as well (which I'm sure he does)

So to answer your question, it is not a true 100 gbps connection - perhaps combined.

Think how hard it would be to stop malicious scripts/trojans/viruses before they get a foothold.
