I recently purchased a acura integra GS. I am wondering how much it will cost me to get a different faster engine in it, while still maintaing a reasonable fuel economy. Also i dont want to burn out my engine in 30,000 miles. I have some money to spend, but not a ton. any sugestions that you could offer would be appreciated. I will post pics of my car soon.
    Thanks mike

i recommend getting yourself the necessary components for turbo, it's by far the least expensive way to making more power with a 4cyl. make sure the turbo you get is f'n huge, because you won't be able to run much boost... so you'll want to make what you do run count. and, once your block is fried, rebuild it and run more boost!

PSI does NOT kill motors damnit.

A shitty tune kills motors. 8 psi out of a 60-1 is more violent than 8 psi out of a 50 trim. Both require completely different tunes. 15 psi out of a 14b isn't nearly as damaging as 15 psi out of a 50 trim. You know what I'm saying?

yeah, i know what you're talking about... i just didn't specify well enough. i was refering to years down the road when his rings start leaking excessively and it's time for forged pistons.
i've heard of b18b's running 7-10psi for several years before any problems start, and those are just things wearing out.

So how much would a kick ass turbo cost a brother for his acura? also getting my car ready for a turbo? give me a number to work with.

i can't give you exact numbers, just numbers that a pretty generic
fmu (raises fuel pressure with boost, and functions as a fpr) 100-150
                fuel pump 100
exhaust manifold (what the turbo bolts onto, many variations, used or new) 100-500
ic (intercooler; how much power do you want? how big is the turbo? how much boost will you run? how much lag do you want? drag only or street-friendly? used or new? fmic frontmount or smic sidemount?) 100+
piping (intake, turbo to ic and ic to throttle-body; this can be a diy or a pro thing... depends on the application) 50+
turbo (again, many variations, used or new, do some research before jumping into this item) 100-1500
gauges (boost, exhaust temp, fuel pressure, etc) 50+

as you can see, a turbo can be fairly inexpensive to start with... just like any addiction 😉
this is generic stuff that you will need for any car that starts out na (naturally aspirated), but each car is different and may need more or fancier stuff (bigger injectors, ecu mods, etc).
your best bet is definitely to talk to someone that's done this kind of thing before (sls, tinmasters, roadsounds, autowerx, etc) and can give you more specific numbers and realistic expectations...

How much do you think it would cost to change mine from a base to a a V-tec engine? a rough estimate would be good. Also how much would a full cat back exhuast and air intake boost my HP on my 1.8 reg engine in my Acura? and what would the price be for both of those?

you'll need a vtec head (150+ for a BARE head) and you'll have to convert your block by creating the necessary oil passages; there are kits available.

depends on where you get the intake and exhaust, anything can be found in a junkyard... at least 200 for both, unless you want the bling of "name-brand"

doing an ls/vtec the right way is going to cost you over a 1,000 bucks... for the power you'll get out of it, don't waste your time... go turbo

I disagree. VTEC motors make more power with boost too. 🙂

Just do it all at once. LS/VTEC + Turbo. 🙂

if u do an ls/vtech u might as well get vtech water pump, vtech oil pump, the money u spend on the ls/vtech after the the head, and all the other bull shit u just might as well just buy a turbo kit.

just do the crVTEC. its basically the same as lsVTEC but you get the displacement of the two liter
