yeah so me and a friend were driving around in his built 1g talon with a 3inch side exit exhaust, and a cop pulled us over and gave him a exhibition ticket for his exhaust. but we werent even going fast, spinning the tires or anything, just getting up to 20mph at like 8th throttle. and we have a friend infront of us as a whitness saying the same thing.

i guess what i am asking is what should we do and is this right.

    thanks, jon

loud exhaust is going to result in an exhibition ticket...
      put a muffler on it.

I fought mine and won for the same. Reduced down to exhaust. They can get you if they can prove the operator of the vehicle was the cause, ie, revving engine. If the vehicle is just plain loud on its own then they must get you on the exhaust ticket and not exhibition.

Probably a rookie cop, or one that is just a plain dick. the reason he gave you an exhibition ticket over exhaust is because it is more damaging to your record, (ie. points on the license and insurance rates) and yes i think you may be able to argue that to a jusge that you were not driving like a asshat, and that the car just has a louder than normal exhaust, they may reduce the ticket to a exhaust, or if it is a reasonable judge like i had when i have contested a few of my tickets, he may drop it all togather. just be aware as i have had this experience, i took an hp to court to contest about 8 tickets over a couple of years, each time it made him more mad at me, so everytime i saw him he would pull me over for something and try to ticket me again. and i havent lived in that area in a while and he still does it when i go visit. Good luck :icon_thumright:

thanks, the worse part about it is that he just turned 18 so its on his record for good or for awhile atleast

but his dad is going to talk to a lawyer and try and fight it

To fight a ticket you don't even really need a lawyer, and your driving record doesn't change when your 18...

Just go to the perscribed court date and time and explain it to the judge.

yeah we know he doesnt need a lawyer, but his dad just wants to ask if this is right, and if there is anything he can do.

and yes it does change here in sd.. i had a exhibition driving when i was 15 and when i turned 18 they wiped my slate clean
