how is it a stupid move, yeah he is a great player, but he's getting old, and so might as well free up some cap space and move some good players young talent in...

i agree with that strategy to a point, but dont let mchale build it again. It obviously hasnt worked so far.....(just think if we had all those first round picks from the joe smith dilema.)

Exactly. Garnett is getting boring to watch. He is a great player, but no one cares if you are not winning.

You have to get worse before you can get better. This trade doesn't really help the wolves all that much in the process, since they are really getting much less than previous offers, and not much young promising talent.

It hasn't worked for all these years, and the wolves have done nothing to indicate otherwise. To me the wolves are the lions of the NBA.

Wolves are full on rebuilding now and a 30+ star like garnett just isn't feasible to even think about building around again. Besides Garnett isnt near the all around player he used to be and some of the players in return could step up big for us. This trade is really smart..

NOW on the other hand.... Luis Castillo of the twins was traded today for minor leaguers that never will make the MLB. The Twins are "contending". Reason I say that is we are only like 6 games out but we just aren't as good as the tigers or indians but they proved me wrong before. But if your team is contending why trade your leadoff .300+ hitter for nothing..... Puzzles me..

            absofreakingloveit.

love KG to but the clock finally struck 0. KG made incredibally to much money that held us back from signing anyone significant in the FA market.

Now we got a nice young core of players to play with, a few lotto picks here and there to piece in...Id rather watch a 20 win team with a bright future then a 30 win team with a bleak future. thisll make me watch just to see them develop together

from both standpoints its stupid minus the getting some cap room, but from a business stand point a terriblie move, no matter if anyone admits it KG is the main reason lots of people around here watch the twolves or the biggest part go to the games

hate to rain on your parade, attendance have slowly decreased since our western conference apperance 3 years ago. Nobodys interested in seeing kg's patenent 22 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists in a 97-91 losing effort to Detroit anymore

The Wolves had their chance in '04 and it didn't happen. I doubt they'd even make it back to the playoffs in the next few years. This was the best thing for KG and the team

Good move. It will be really weird seeing KG in Boston though. The Celtics may be a decent team this year.
Any guesses on who leads the Wolves in scoring this year?

McHale has to still be working for the Celtics. There is no other reason why he would make this trade. Telfair is just another problem player like Ricky Davis. Why do we keep taking the shit that Boston has laying around? A lottery protected 1st round pick? Yay! Big deal. A couple players with expiring contracts and 2 years with Al Jefferson who will never be a KG caliber player. McHale should have been fired years ago... He has hurt this team over and over again and has not been held accountable. Joe Smith deal? Marko Jaric deal? Nudi Ebi? Wally for Ricky Davis!? Not taking care of the Cassell and Spreewell contracts and letting them go. Now letting one of the best players ever to play the game leave the team because he couldn't put more talent around him. I am sick of hearing people say that we can't put talent around KG because of his contract. Bullshit. There are plenty of other teams that pay a superstar KG type of cash. The difference is, they don't give big cash to players like Hudson and Jaric and Hassel and Madsen. We have too many overpaid shitty players on our team. That has been the problem. Glen Taylor is just as responsible as McHale however and for that reason... I am done with the T-Wolves until I see some new management. I'll be buying a bean town jersey this year and getting NBA league pass on Direct TV I guess. I hope KG gets his championship and I'll be there for his return to Target Center.

Yeah, Madsen and his $2 million is a huge hit. Same with the other 3 and their $4-$5 million contracts. I'm not saying McHale is doing much right, but I don't think you can make those 4 players contracts out to be that horrible.

Madsen isn't a huge hit, but he isn't the type of player you give 2.5 million a year to either.
How about this then... Juwan Howard will be taking about 7 million a year.
Mark Blount - 6.7 this year, 7.3 next year
Troy Hudson - 6+ million for the next 3 seasons!
Trenton Hassell - 4.3 for the next 3 seasons.

That doesn't leave you ANY room to bring in another decent player.

KG's 22 million dollar contract, his extension he wants for another 20 mill per year hog ties this team up to make any sort of move.

Telfair is an expiring, wasn't really wanted but we took him. Maybe he'll straighten up and be effective for once.

I dunno where you got this lottery protected first round pick from, but the only one I know of is the one we owe to the Clippers for Jaric. We get our pick back for Marcus Banks that we gave boston a few years ago.

                              Mchale sucks i know.

i dont really want to disect whats wrong with the rest of your post. but theres a lot of things that need to be straightened up

KG's 20 million a year only hog ties the team when you give crappy players too much money and sign them to long term deals. (See my above post) Other teams do it and we could have as well with some better planning.

Telfair among the other guys in the deal have expiring contracts in the next 1-2 years... so we really aren't gaining ANY players if you look at it that way. You think they are going to resign any of those guys with a bottom feeding team like the T-Wolves are going to be now?

Maybe we are looking at a different deal, but our first round picks are both at least partially protected.
"The Timberwolves get the Celtics' first-round pick in 2009, unless it is among the top three, and a return of Minnesota's conditional first-round draft pick" (and by conditional I believe it was top 10 protected like our pick to the Clippers according to what I heard earlier today.
So basically... two lottery protected picks (and the 2009 pick is a big gamble at best) and a bunch of guys that may or may not be ok role players... who will more than likely walk after this season or next anyway... all for the best basketball player Minnesota will probably ever have.
Just like KFAN was saying earlier today... they're setting the team up quite nicely to sell in a couple of years.
