You can't really do a 1 year test run. If you did it one specific area people would bitch about not being able to be in it and it would quite a tremendous task to change the entire tax system for only one year.

I did the numbers last year in a thread and came up with an even MORE fair tax. FLAT income tax.....IIRC 12% flat tax across the board w/ no exemptions would pay for everything we currently are funding, including the war in Iraq. Seems better than the ~20% tax proposed by the "fair tax"

first $10,210 is not taxed if single 0 dep. 18+
X2 if married, and add 3480 per dependent up to 6 after that..

Family of 4 $27,380 no tax

who the fuck do you think will pay the difference.
They say, pay if you spend, let's say that everyone starts saving, yeah right.. Anyways let's say we save ,who the fuck is going to pay the difference, you think they are just going to not collect the taxes, now that's fucking bullshit. They will have to increase that so called 23% up to probally closer to 30+% so who really is going to pay for it??? Like I said let's support the lazy and stupid fuckers out there....

They already do every year basically...the tax code would also be changed from several thousand pages to basically nothing. It would also force the people who currently cheat/lie on their taxes to pay up, which currently is in the ballpark of $400BIL annually that the government doesn't get due to tax fraud.

So you're saying the families/people that are currently struggling to get by even after receiving money would instead have to start paying 12%?

You do realize you currently are already double taxed on everything anyways right?

I'm not saying the "fair tax" is the solution, but the current tax system isn't exactly dandy either. You currently get taxed on your earnings REGARDLESS of whether or not you save every last penny. If you do spend any money you are taxed again on the money you were already taxed on (minimum 6% on purchases). If you save and put the money into some sort of investment, unless you are really smart with your investments you are taxed again on the interest earned on your investments too.

I don't think there is a single person on the planet that fully comprehends the current tax code, thats how fucked up it is right now.

I agree with you on above post, but the "FairTax" is it really fair??/
Taxes are not going to be reduced in any way... It will just be collected by other means and would be starting over.. I am sure it would get just as complicated as it is now as time goes on. That is why there is no rush to change things. They just add more tax codes to the current ones.

Well for a family of 4 earning 28K annually, the only problem in their life is the fact that they are lazy. 2 people working full time at McDonalds could easily bring in 40K or more a year.

QTFMFT!!!! (unless, of course there is some sort of disability preventing you from being able to work...then I can see how it works out to the $28k mark)
