Fargo PD and Car Theives
-
All of the arrests i've heard of have been police finding people in lots/streets...
-
because of people calling in...
one arrest was made when a person was actually sittin in their car and someone tried breaking in....they called the cops and the person ran, but they seen where they went.
I heard a couple weeks ago they caught a couple 14yr old girls...
-
14 year old girls? ha what were they going to do with it?
-
The reason they're doing something about it now as opposed to a few years ago is probably because there's been so many in such a short amount of time. It's probably attracting a lot of attention, so they're forced to either actually work for once or - God forbid - look bad.
When my mom's car was stolen and later found a few years go, there were papers in the trunk belonging to some woman. The woman had already been in prison a couple times for car theft and the police had been to her house a couple days prior to ask her about a different car theft. But, they had the car and they closed the case without even trying to make any arrests. The fact that they couldn't put 2 and 2 together in a simple case like that is just ridiculous, and that's the main reason I have no respect for police officers in Fargo.

people should roll with hidden fuel pump cutoff switches in their rides. the only way to steal such a car is
- they find the switch
- they supply +12v to your fuel pump from somewhere else (after figuring out what's going on)
- they tow / trailer the car away
#3 is the most likely

- GPS device w/ remote detonator
Being as you more than likely lost your vehicle if it's been stolen, might as well make the effers pay right!

Exactly. Figure without the GPS you lose the car anyways, might as well lose it in style and with the possibility of killing the thief too. Even though a GPS system would allow you to track the car, many people don't like to keep a vehicle after it's been stolen. Hell, you could have the OPTION of blowing it up or you could just track it down and kill the person yourself and get your car back.

Some theives are smart enough to dodge stuff like that. They'll load the car into a closed-box truck, then drive that truck off to somewhere neutral like a grocery store parking lot. Then they'll sit on it for a day or two to see if anyone is casing it (i.e. there's a tracking device installed in the car). When it looks like there's no heat, then they move it to a chop shop or whereever.

Track it down and wait just like them...once they think it's safe and decide to bring it to wherever you show up with Jonny 12 Gauge and show them some street love.

Many years back my dad was working a job up in Grand Forks @ UND I believe. Someone broke into his car and stole his radar detector. For some reason they didn't take the 2 guns that were in the car nor did they take the laptop...go figure!
