Sounds like it is true. That really sucks, I feel for his family, friends and fans. He certainly set the bar for many rally drivers and will be missed by all.

Colin McRae, son, and two others dead following crash

Following a crash of a helicopter near his estate in Lanarkshire, Scotland, Colin McRae and his son are feared dead. Reports are still sketchy, but all point to the possibility that it was McRae that was piloting the vehicle at the time, along with his son and two passengers. The 39-year old rally champion is survived by his wife and daughter.

Update: According to The Scotsman it has been confirmed that McRae was killed in the accident.
