Motorex in Washington did crash testing for the Skylines, you can also get legalized JDM cars through them.

Motorex DID do skylines. They lied to the DOT. They fucked up, then the gov. made it harder to import/legalize. The only years of skylines that can attempt to be Federally approved legally right now are 95-96

They release heat. I have them, but way more then he does. They dont do any good, if you leave the rubber seals at the back of the hood. It works the same way a cowl hood on a old muscle car.

well, the way i read this thread, somebody said

"it's just a s14, so you don't have to do crash testing"

              and somebody else said

"its the same amount of work to do a skyline gt-r"

One of those two statements has to be false, unless i am misunderstanding one of them. No, they are both right. If a car has a USDM counterpart that the OEM dealer will contest and prove in structuarally the same, it take less work to legalize. just needs to pass emissions, glass and lighting/obd2 complience.....

              What's the disconnect?HUH?

And yeah -- R32's aren't that expensive.. i think you could get one into the US for 10-15k if you didn't plan on federalizing it. That's still big coin for something you can't drive and can't insure 🙂
When you get a R32, let me know, I will deliver one to your door with a full tank of gas.

I hope you realize, except for the 50 or so motorex skylines and probably 5% of the others, every JDM vehicle in the US that is street driven in not federalized, and if it was, it got so by $$ being payed to the right people. To start doing federal legalizations for just 1 car/chassis, you will need MAJOR $$$$$$.

The owner got his ass thrown in the slammer for that too. I see there still in business, the website is till up at least, they don't do any importing themselves though.

The website is up again? Last i looked it was all shut down. On the nissan forums, locals to the shop said that it was pretty much empty everything closed up and chained, do not enter signs everywhere. I guess they may be somewhat open again, but not ever going to touch a skyline or any of that again.

The owner did not go to jail for the importing stuff. IIRC it was for accounting, kidnapping, and some other things.

pretty much. actaully come to think of it, he was sent back to Japan. I do remember his jail sentance was not from the cars. It was other activities that he was involved in.

I think that the s13 and s14 share the same chassis as the corresponding 240sx of those years, you might be able to bypass the crash testing that way. Just a thought.

You can get a legalized R-32 for under $18k. There are loopholes. And Progressive Auto insures Nissan R-chassis cars, as well as USAA, but not everyone can get USAA.

OK -- so a S13 or S14 is "easier" because nobody has to crash test it in the US if Nissan will say "yeah, that's just a 240SX of such and such year".

And, none of the cars we're talking about are 100% "legal" here unless they were a Motorex car (for skyline R33s), or if they were a Silvia that got Nissan to say "yes, that thing is fine".

Basically for a JDM car to be legit here, you have to go the Motorex route (for a chassis family that never exited here), or you have to convince Nissan/Toyota/whomever to say that it is equivalent to a model already tested/sold here.

Anyone have details on progressive insuring Skylines? That's quite a surprise.. they won't even do an agreed value policy on one of my cars..

I can't quite agree with the 100% legal thing.

IMO, it's one or the other. It's either legal, or illegal. There's no 'Ok you meet 90% of expectations so here's a US title.'

And like I said, there are loopholes that allow someone to reach 100% state legal ON PAPER, which is all that most people are concerned about. I can guarantee that half of the 'legal' R-chassis cars in the US are not truly legal, but if they have a state title, tag, and insurance policy, they are legal in the eyes of Johnny Law.

I know my post is kinda incoherent, but i'll try to break it down farther the best that I can if need be.

Where did you hang with him on sat?

He was feeding you BS if he said that. There is not 17k in mods on the car even if he bought it stock. He told me he got the bolt in case and rims, everything else was on the car. It possibly has a built motor, but if so, why does it have a shitty turbo setup(bottom mount stock turbo)

                                          PM me for:
