The car is registered in florida. What would it cost to import one? At least that much.

where do you read that this car is legal in the US?

The body looks wrong without the GT-R fender flares on the front end.

      so buy some?......

and after so many years any car is considered legal in the US... in some states you would have to meet emissions but around here it would be legal to register. i believe its considered a collectors car or something of the sort.

the feds can crush this car if they feel like it. Unless it's a Motorex R-33, it's not legal. "Getting away with it" is not the same as "legal".

How would you register the car if its not legal. There has to be some way around it they're legal in canada.

the only way to legally register the car in the US is to import like 5 of them(I think that was the last number I heard anyways). Then you give those 5 to one of the certified crash test agencies for crash testing to make sure they are up to standards. After that, you can import the specific years and models the government approved, and you have to apply for a US vin or the equivalent of some sort of vehicle identification. The company that started this back in 1999 was some place on the east coast called JK technologies. However, they only crash tested R33's, so the government limited the eligibilty to 96-98 skylines(they originally requested all years of skylines be legalized). So you can actually register any 96-98 skyline GTS, GTS-T, or GTR if you go through the proper paperwork.

link to DOT crash testing documents: http://dmses.dot.gov/docimages/pdf42/69793_web.pdf

link to the list of nonconforming cars eligible for importation(scroll down the list, you will see the R33 listed)

Yeah but if you can legally register a tank to drive on the street why not a JDM car? Its a little less extreme.

if its 95+ it also has to meet OBD2 regulations. You also have to submit 1 car to emissions testing, if it fails, you have to submit another one with changes. It also has to have all the saftey regulations for the year the car was made......... Its not cheap.

In Canada, the rule is 15 years. But.... Its getting changed from what I have read lately. All the JDM cars in Canada have to be full inspected and fixed/repaired and all that shit before they can be titled(they call it safetied). The cars legal in canada, even though they have a canadian title are still technically not legally registerable in the US if they are JDM.

People have found ways around this. That 97 JDM kouki S14 in Brainerd is registered with a title. You just have to know what you are doing.

Only GT-R r33 are able to be registered. After motorex, went under nobody can legally do the conversions any more. So a company will have to start from scratch and do all testing all over again. Its not paperwork to be fully USDOT legal. To get a title and all that shit, you can do it at the state level, but the car will be risky(aka still can be taken).

And, about cost of that car. If i really wanted to I could pick up a car like that shipped to my door for WAY less the the 29k it showed on the ebay auction last time i looked at it.

                          PM me for:
                          Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
                          Diesel repairs or performance products.
