A rather uneventful evening on I29 with the local sheriffs.

Ok...racing is dumb, BUT I think you should fight the racing portion of the ticket ESPECIALLY since they didn't actually clock you speeding and it sounds like your record is not horrible. Won't cost anything extra, and will probably only mess up a morning or afternoon for you. The 10 points is going to be hard to swallow though IF you get the racing ticket....and will raise your insurance quite a bit, so you may as well try and fight that portion of it. If you do that though, admit freely that you had expired tags (I've been guilty of this myself in the past), admit that you were speeding to keep up with your friends, but that in no way were you trying to out accelerate/pass them. Worst thing that can happen is that you get found guilty of the charges you already have been charged with.

^true. If it wasn't a speed contest of some sort.. you can probably just get it knocked down to speeding if they're nice about it. And hope nobody "official" reads this thread, and that none of the other guys say they were racing. because then they'd just be screwing all of you.
I've seen a lot of crappy tickets get dropped because of technicalities.. but my guilt complex doesn't want me to get away with not paying for a ticket I deserve. Damn guilt complex. So I've only fought one ticket.. which actually WAS a b.s. charge.. and paid the rest, because I really truly was speeding. Usually by about 80 (ND) to 130 (MN) bucks worth.
^^GarageAlchemist.. I think I know which cop you're talking about. huge LOL when I read that. He was a pretty decent guy last time we crossed paths, let off one of my friends on the condition that I drive him home. (passed all the tests but the breathalyzer was 'acting up' or something, just dumb luck, buddy wasn't sober enough to see "one way" on NP apparently.)

Ok, i think i should clarify what Jeremy said in his first post cuz i don't think he explained it well. From what i heard second hand, and jeremy can correct this because he was there, it was just a cruise and they pulled onto the interstate and everyone kicked in down in a single file line, no one was racing, just cruising and accelerating "hard". Not highway pulls, just cruising. And the headlight ticket was for yellow HIDs.
So im sure none of you have ever accelerated hard onto the interstate during a cruise.....

so it sounds like a typical cruise in grand forks and they got busted! lolEarlier this spring we went on a highway cruise and we had a city patrolman follow us from 32nd-Demers. I was going the limit because of DSM issues lol, and he rode on my ass almost the whole way. Obviously they know whats going to happen the second a pack of cars turns onto 32nd.
Lets hope this isnt going to be a common issue with cruises this summer and people get pulled over and nailed for every reason possible.

the best trick for not getting pulled over is still to give them no reason to do it.

..so yeah, the more i hear about the whole situation, the less it seems people were actually racing.. still speeding and still driving without insurance etc. etc. ..there's a good chance you can get out of the racing ticket.. just give them a call at the prosecutor's office and go from there.

yea, if you keep doing the same stuff the cops get smart and wait in areas like that to get ya! may have to try and change up the route even more and go down different/random roads! we have done that here in fargo!
