You just need an off air HD antenna. I think I spent about $50 for mine and it works great.

for refernece sake, I have a 47" 1080p philips with a built in hdtv tuner. I heard something about a switch over from analog to digital in Jan 09. They were supposedly giving coupons for something free, is that what they are.

There is no such thing as an "HD" antenna. An antenna is an antenna.

wait...so you have a 47in 1080p tv and you didn't buy cable? If you can't afford cable, you probably shouldn't have an expensive TV.

                    QFT!

My parents use an antenna from the 60's and still get HD channels on their farm over air.... That damn antenna doesn't even use coax cable, but rather the 300 ohm flat dual wire cable...and it's been ghetto spliced in at least 6 or 7 spots that I know of. HD comes in clear as can be.

antennaweb.org is what you need. You put in your address, it tells you what kind of antenna to get to get a specific station (also where to aim the antenna if it is directional, which you may need).

OTA HD often looks better than digital cable or small satellite, as operators of the latter have a fair bit of leeway in how they allocate fixed bandwidth into channels and tend to turn compression way up to squeeze in more channels.
