No sense in trying to debate points with ignorant people that don't know why they vote the way they do. Is it because your mommy and daddy voted that way? Or because Obama is half black? Outside of Dave, tjamz, and Jim, nothing but mindless idiots when it comes to politics on here. Keep up the pictures.

You explain to ME why you think Obama is the best candidate, in your own words.

I could do it...but this wasn't directed at me.
Right now the only argument I'm hearing for voting for McCain is because he isn't Obama. For some people that is enough, but I want to know what McCain plans on doing differently because it seems like he wants to stay the course that GWB has set forth already. In my (and many other peoples) opinion, that course is heading for economic collapse.
I think we've realized that neither party actually cuts gov't spending and likely never will, so looking at Government as a business (and no, I'm not trying to promote socialism in this point) who has the better business plan for balancing a budget?
Group "A" who is maxing out their lines of credit making themselves vulnerable to the whims of their lending agency....and makes their stock less valuable to others in the market (current Republican party)
Group "B" who raises the prices on the goods and services that they provide so that they can pay back their loans (Democratic Party)
If I were running a business, I'd MUCH rather be lumped into Group "B" than Group "A". Of course, ideally, you would want to be Group "C" who cuts spending wherever they can. Unfortunately in American Politics today, there is no Group "C" candidate that has a legitimate chance of winning the election.

I've already stated the biggest reason I don't like Obama: he strongly beleives in the forceful redistribution of wealth via tax policy and other programs. Then I specifically mentioned that he plans on increasing my taxes. Perhaps in retort to me, Tad posted some silly CNN thing that I actually bothered to watch. It was titled "average taxes under each candidate" or something.
Well Tad, if you never learn anything else about me, understand that I am in no way average, so there's no reason to assume that whatever CNN thinks is "average" applies to me.
For instance, does CNN know what percentage of my total compensation package comes from stock transactions? And what has Obama specifically said he's going to do to capital gains taxation? [Hint: raise them]. Guess who that will affect negatively? Me. Does CNN include that in the "average" computation? How could they guess how much stock I'll be liquidating this year? How will they know how long I've held it?
Inspite of his tax increase plans (which, btw, -- federal revenue increases under lower taxes, at least since the Reagan administration. Raising taxes very often has the opposite effect on federal revenue), he still plans on spending more money on new or expanded shit than his Robin Hood taxes can pay for. Claiming that he's going to fix our budget is ridiculous -- He could have had a much larger impact on that while he actually had control of the budget as a senator, but in his few paltry years of "distinguished" service he has voted "present" (i.e.: i'm a fucking coward) more than anything else.
But since Tad thinks I'm an idiot, don't take my word for it... read it from the WSJ. Can you name two famously smart Democrats who lowered the capital gains rate? The WSJ can -- JFK and Clinton.. Guess what the #1 thing republicans grudglingly admit they liked about Clinton? The economy.

I don't see how someone can be surprised that a person might not want to vote for Obama. In my case at least, I could care less what color or religion he is, and my dad certainly isn't the Ron Paul fan that I am, so it's definitely not parental influence. Obama has said that he wants to raise my taxes, that he wants me to have fewer options when it comes to guns, that I am not smart enough to make decisions for myself, and that he has some grand vision for my life.
Well, fuck him and the horse he rode in on. I want a government that lets me opt-out as much as possible. From that angle, every other candidate is a better choice than Obama. Ron Paul is the best candidate, and McCain is the unfortuneate choice given to people in our 2 party system.
As much as I want to write in Ron Paul, I need "not Obama" to win more, especially with the # of supreme court appointments coming up this time around. The DC Handgun ban case was only won on a 5-4 margin. We came 1 person away from losing the 2nd amendmen last month. The next POTUS will have multiple supreme court appointments, and letting that fall into the hands of someone like Obama, who with his every move wants to re-interpret the constitution in the name of populism, would accelerate the downward spiral of the US into a european style welfare state with no individual liberties outside of what society thinks is "normal".
That may be fine with a lot of people. It's not fine with me.

And here's the short version for people who can't be bothered to read my long posts:
- Obama sucks at economics
- Wants to play Robin Hood, except he steals from people instead of corrupt sherrifs
- He thinks he knows what's best for everybody
- He hates the idea of people owning guns
- The next president of the US will get to nominate several SC justices
-- and we almost lost the 2nd amendment last month in a 5/4 supreme court decision
Conclusion: An obama presidency will mean a continued deterioration of the great experiment of American individual rights into the socialist european welfare state.

We cannot change it now, it will be one or the other. I can tell you come voting day it will be the same as always, REPUBLICAN everywhere.

Yet every economist I've seen shows that he is more fiscally responsible than McCain.
[QUOTE]- Wants to play Robin Hood, except he steals from people instead of corrupt sherrifs
I'm guessing this won't happen...remember congress is made up of a lot of rich people who receive a lot of money from a lot of other rich people/organizations. These guys don't/won't (traditionally speaking) bite the hand that feeds them.
- He thinks he knows what's best for everybody
He's a politician....that is kinda the job he signed on for.
- He hates the idea of people owning guns
He also has a degree in Constitutional Law and was a senior lecturer at the University of Illinois for several years. I can't say that I agree with him on gun control issues (I haven't studied his position enough honestly,) but I honestly don't care if there is a 3 hour, 3 day, 3 week or 3 month waiting period on getting a gun if it helps keep guns out of the hands of people who have criminal records or a mental state that makes them unfit for owning a gun. I have never needed a gun so badly that I couldn't wait a few extra days to get it.
- The next president of the US will get to nominate several SC justices
Correct me if I'm wrong, but all he can do is nominate them...they still need the advice and consent of the senate to become the nominee. I said this about Bush and I will say it again about whoever gets in next time: If the majority of the people vote for the President, he should have the right to appoint whoever he wants to the Supreme Court (within reason of course). If the will of the people is to move this country towards the left/right by voting in a new president, then so be it.
- and we almost lost the 2nd amendment last month in a 5/4 supreme court decision
Is this pertaining to the Washington DC ban on guns? I keep hearing from my right-wing friends that the SC is skewed towards the left. If everyone on the left felt that guns should go away, wouldn't the supreme court not ruled the way it did?
Conclusion: An obama presidency will mean a continued deterioration of the great experiment of American individual rights into the socialist european welfare state.
Only if the Senate/House allow it. Remember those checks/balances? Yeah, he can't repeal that law.
I'm all for cutting welfare to the undeserving....such as mothers who keep having kids to keep the checks coming in or people who fake disabilities to get a "Free Check". I just don't know how to properly police this and make sure it gets fixed.
