Stoplights with this new Horn-Free Zone...
-
Has anyone else realized how retarded stoplights near train tracks are now that they have these horn/whistle free zones? Several mornings on my way to work I'll have to wait for 5+ minutes(not exaggerating here) for a frickin light to turn green again because I guess they feel the need to allow non-existent traffic crossing the tracks THAT much time to cross. And if you're unlucky enough to be waiting at a light on center ave. when there is a train on either side of you, you'd better hope you have a damn DVD to watch because your ass will be waiting for a green forever it seems like.
Am I the only one to notice the stupidity? I've talked to other people and they agree so I figured I'd get some opinions from you guys as well...

LOL, every time i get stuck there at those lights, i think , it is insane. I think its funny somebody else thinks those things are rediculos.

You actually sit and wait for those lights? As long as there is no cars around i go on through.

I have the kind of luck that would end up with me getting a ticket if I decided to drive through them. The only one I consistently drive through because I get so pissed is the one right by Scheels. That one is one of the worst I think and usually I'll just drive through if those stupid white "train/emergency" lights are flashing and it's red.
Still...I think a person with 2 compound fractured legs, downs syndrome, and a nail in their skull could cross the tracks in the time they are given with the current program.

It's funny you mention that...
I worked for BNSF this summer and talked about the quiet-zone thing in Moorhead. the railroad HATES horn-free zones. The city approaches the railroad and asks to make a quiet-zone. The railroad. in order to keep the number of accidents on the track as low as possible, tells them they have to reduce road crossings, install new cantilevers and signage, etc. all on the cities dollar. The City decides to lengthen the light times because, in there all knowing minds, they think there will be increased traffic from the closed crossings.
Call the City, complain. that's the only way it will change.

Yeah in a way I feel bad for the railroad because that was here first and in essence was what made the two towns what they are. At the same time, it's damn annoying, and I wish the city would build better/crossings so we didn't have to wait for all the trains that come through.
There are many times where I've considered complaining about how stupid the setup is. Almost anyone that encounters them hates the way they are set up...I have yet to ask someone who has come across them that thinks they work well or are set up well. Now some wise ass on here will say something along those lines though.
I just re-read your post and noticed the part about reducing the number of crossings. That was another gripe I had with this new setup...now that crossing on the east side of Scheels is closed, the city "updated" the road/crossing on the west side and one block west which are both NARROWER (by "feel" and looks) than they were before. WTF are the idiots thinking sometimes I have to wonder...now we have one less crossing on an already congested road, any time a train comes through a 2 lane road turns into a 1 lane road because cars in the right lane are backed up to timbuck-two waiting for the train to go through. Downtown Moorhead is basically one big cluster-f*** it seems. Then to top it off, they add stoplights in other parts of town where no light is needed, and intersections where lights ARE needed or lanes NEED to be widened, they don't do jack about it.

Its the most worthless shit ever.
It does nothing but make traffic on main ave a nightmare and piss everyone off cause the south bound lights are the only ones green...but nobodys coming cause of the damn train.
