I'd like to go with some sort of quick shifter set up on my 919. I don't know much at all about the different options out there. What is the best bang for the buck? Would I need an ignition system to cut spark during shifting with all types of quick shifters?

I have 2 different types of shifter on my GSXR 1000....

System #1 is Dynojet's Quick Shifter.

This uses a pressure switch and a modified shift rod to replace your stock shift rod. This interfaces with the Dynojet Ignition Module (engine kill) to allow clutchless upshifts by putting pressure on the shifter, just like a regular shifting motion. So.....hold the throttle wide open, don't touch the clutch lever, and push up with your foot to shift. The kill time is adjustable through the Ignition Module software.

This system is great for around town riding or "spirited" riding.

      System #2 is a CO2 shifter from Cycle-Tek.

This is a variation of an "air" shifter. This uses the same type of engine kill as the quick shifter. The shifting motion is performed by a shift cylinder that is directly attached to the shift shaft. The cylinder is driven by CO2, which passes through an air solenoid. Everything is wired to the factory horn button. When the button is pressed, it energizes the engine kill, as well as an air solenoid. The air solenoid passes the CO2 and drives the cylinder, creating the shifting motion. It all happens in a matter of milliseconds, in conjunction with the engine kill, so the shift is fairly seamless.

Air/CO2 shifters are great for the track. One main advantage is that you don't need to get your left foot on the peg for the 1-2 shift.

If you're not going to drag, reverse your shift pattern and get a full throttle upshift kit. Makes riding a lot more fun. Hey why not a 1/4 turn throttle too while your at it?
