You do not NEED surgery. One of the options that they gave my girlfriend when she tore hers (complete) was no surgery. That is however one of the few parts of the body that will not heal itself, so it will always remain torn. You can strengthen all the other ligaments and tendons in your knee to compensate for it and make it through life just fine. Sports would be a stretch but everyday living would be no problem. If you have health insurance id get the surgery if it its not to hard on your finances.

Bingo. That's exactly where I was going to go with my response as well. You won't be able to cut/pivot like you did before without repairing it. You shouldn't have a problem walking/doing every day things though, especially as everything else starts to be able to compensate for it. I'd say have the surgery, especially since it'll be stronger than before and probably won't ever ruin that one again. :icon_cheers:

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Yeah, I think i will have to go with the surgery, I suppose that after its all done, through re-hab and all that fun stuff...never have to worry about it again, for the left leg that is...but god this sucks haha.

Get a good knee brace if you plan on doing sports (a real one, not one from Walmart).

to give some perspective, mine is almost certainly at least partially torn (had it checked out, just haven't had the MRI to confirm). And i just have a dead spot in my range of motion with my knee, i can still run and do almost everything, but at like the very bottom of a squat lift my left knee just disappears, and has 0% strength.

well with me, i cannot at all bend my leg without it getting really tight...and it just feels like it wont move anymore, and at a peak, when it feels like i cant bend it anymore, thats when the pain starts, I cannot do a squat at all...I cant get into an athletic stance at all.

I partially tore mine back in college and its been just fine so far, i do stay pretty active and there is always the chance that it might go on me. The rehab is not that bad I was on the athletic training staff the season the bison football team had 7 cruciate ligament tears in the first two games so I got to spend some time with a lot of the guys that were rehabbing. If you tore it completely, and have insurance get the surgery. iirc you are still in high school so no worries about down time from work so why not get it fixed?

Well, little update here since the MRI was today and was told the results and what is going to be done for my situation...MRI was easy enough..no problems..fell asleep..and relaxed..my dad and I went and checked out motorcycles around town and I have since then fallen in love with a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 250 and its sexy, everything is going to be just fine for me, the doc. says that I sprained it pretty badly, its like a really bad bruise is what happened...So yup, no surgery is needed whatsoever, im happy and im just going to need to go through some P.T.
