what did you want them to do, approve that pork bill?
-
how about we grant president obama emergency powers to use the military in any way that he sees fit. Im sure he'd give that power back.

what did you want them to do, approve that pork bill?Nope. But I would like to see something new from them...maybe a competing bill? Hey, now that's an idea! A bill that shows their game plan! Geez I remember the Republicans saying that "(name your democratic candidate) has no gameplan to get us out of this recession and to keep us from falling farther in." Now, it seems that the democrats have a plan, as porky as it may be, to attempt to stimulate the economy and the Republicans are sitting around with their arms (not their thumbs, their whole arms) up their asses crying like little babies about the plan has too much pork in it.
MAN UP! Get into one of the committee meetings and make some changes. The invitation has been set forth by the president. He has said he is willing to make some concessions with this bill....yet no one from the right is stepping up! I'm fairly certain he has the votes in the Senate to push this through, yet he keeps coming back trying to make it bi-partisan, trying to get more on board, trying to create a plan that is somewhere in the middle. But the Republicans refuse to play ball. If you aren't willing to negotiate, don't bitch when it gets rammed down your throat anyway.
Do I like the stimulus package? NO! At least not all of it. Unfortunately no one in Washington seems to be able to sign onto a bill unless there is a pet project in there for them....hence the pork.
Infrastructure; Power Grid; Buying American Made Goods for said projects; etc... All GREAT investments that need to be made one way or another....same with improvements to help law enforcement, fire fighters, emergency personnel, schools, etc...
My solution:
Strip ALL of the pet projects out of the bill. Make it a lean stimulus package designed at improving the projects mentioned above. Anyone who doesn't vote for it doesn't get funding from the bill in their state if/when it passes. Do that and I guarantee that you will have unanimous support on both sides.

Emergency Powers Act
The Emergency Powers Act or EPA was an amendment to the Galactic Constitution passed in 24 BBY. It eliminated term limits for Supreme Chancellors, giving each Chancellor the option of when to stand down for new elections. It also gave Palpatine all necessary authority to attempt to end the Separatist Crisis, including declaration of martial law on local systems.
This is what we need.

I listened to Hannity with his guest Arlen Specter today, (Republican Pennsylvania Senator expected to pass the Bill)
My god that guy upset me, he acted like there was absolutely nothing he could do.... Just not to pass it or pass it....... and that he had to pass it because something/anything had to be done
Jesus H, he is a freaking Senator, WTF is he there for?? Get off your ass and accomplish something
Goddamn hypocrite claims to be a Reganist

Bring on the clones! I'll polish up the ol' light saber and knock the dust of my DL-44.

I thought I had heard there was a "Republican" version of a stimulus bill that involved less governmental spending? I could be wrong, I've been wrong before...but it's what I had heard.

I said today Torbs.../sarcasm
The house is the wrong place to try and put a bill together in this political climate. They are so outnumbered there that it is silly....maybe that says something about the will of the nation.
It still doesn't change the fact that none of them seem too willing to try and modify this bill. Don't want to sit down and negotiate, even though the table is open for their ideas.

So the polls show that the majority of americans are now against the bill, the republicans submitted their own ideas, and yet they are doing nothing? You need to quit watching/listening/reading those left wing propaganda machines, its turning your brain to mush.

chuck i was listening to the minority leader of the house last week, he said the repubs were in a group discussion over this anti-stimulus and the great obamanator walked in. He asked why they wouldnt approve the bill and they told him for almost 2 hours what was wrong with it. Obama then just shrugged his shoulders and said "submit your reccomendations to soandso and we will see what we can do", and finished with something on the lines of "im not going to discuss any other options".
So basically the big guy told them right to their face he wasnt going to do anything they wanted so they might as well quit. That is why they havent been doing much -
I love how our elected officials don't actually represent the views of their constituents but rather their own personal agendas and the agendas of their registered party. One good example of this is how Amy Klobuchar herself said that her office received 1000 calls a day against the bailouts and only 20 a day for it. She voted for the bailout anyway.
