Most kids that are a year away from a degree that should be netting 60k+ a year are happy to have a 14/15$ per hour internship. You, with no diploma in sight, should be happy you even had a job paying 13/hr to begin with.

I got laid off from DMI also but i got a job one week later. Going from $13 to $9+comm really sucks. You just gotta do the best you can right now and take what you can.
Hey BP! You worked at daves welding? How long have you been unemployed from there? I just finished the mig course there on the 6th. I decided to take some welding training after i got laid off from DMI.

When I walked out I didn't have shit lined up, within a week I was working for a company in my field for more than I was making at the original shop.

I'm a full time student for the school year so that I can amount to something and have a higher education. I work in the summer and save that money and live off of that in the fall/winter. Crazy idea isn't it...
