We spent the week in North Carolina, and drove there and back. Last Tuesday a freak blizzard hit the entire region. It was odd because the ambient temps were in the low 30s, so nothing would stick to the roadway, but there was active snow and a fresh blanket of snow on much of what we saw.

I drove the Tail of the Dragon (aka Deal's Gap, google it) on the way back, but since i had the wife, kid, and cargo in the car, I took it easy. Even so, some dumbass SUV was slowing me down for the last half of it.

As we were heading towards the TN border and where the Dragon starts, we were in this surreal section of highway heading towards Fontana Dam. It was like being in a forest of ice. I figured this pic was cool enough to share. Sorry for the big size.

The mountains in the KY/NC/TN area are really fantastic for driving and sightseeing. I'm not aware of anything like it anywhere near here. When driving deals gap, I don't think I had more than a few seconds without needing steering input for like 20 straight minutes. It was pretty cool.

Hope you like the picture. This is my 2007 A4 wagon, 2.0 turbo, 6 speed. The box we got for this trip, it's a Thule Atlantis 1800. Every inch of the car and box was packed full. Still got around 26mpg highway, at ~80 mph.

A bunch of Saturn guys go there once a year and stay the whole weekend. Plan on making it one of these times.
